ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has called out critics of his Virgin Islands Party (VIP) administration for using ‘buzzwords’ to malign his government even as they continue work for the people.

Premier Fahie was at the time speaking as a guest on VIP Let’s talk, a radio show on ZBVI 780 AM last evening, July 27, 2021.

Defending Gov't record

“I notice there are some persons using loose words about this government…. corruption and lack of transparency and accountability and they are using it as buzzwords,” Premier Fahie indicated.

“I'm not going to let persons define me, in the way that they want to define,” the Premier went on to say.

Premier Fahie affirmed that his government has no time for lack of transparency and accountability and challenged persons to bring forward proof of any accusations.

Hon Fahie hinted that while talk on the subject matter may sound good, they are usually rooted in rumours.

“But I'm not going to let persons, as we say in my village, dirty my name all the time and get away with it and dirty the government’s name... because we worked hard for the people,” he said.

Gov't continues to work behind the scenes - Premier

The Premier said that while persons may not always agree with the decisions of Governments as is the case in a democracy, the government continues to work on behalf of the people.

“Yes, persons may not agree with everything that we have done and that's normal, that's democracy… but I'm not going to let them get away with certain things without us coming and saying this is what we have done,“ Hon Fahie said in defending his Government’s record.

The current administration has in only two years brought forward more good governance legislation than any other administration and this has been in keeping with its campaign promises.

Included in a sleuth of legislation brought forward by the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) administration to ensure transparency and accountability are the Contractor General and WhistleBlowers Acts, which are still awaiting assent by Governor John J. Rankin CMG.

You talk as if all of the the decisions that the government has made, so far are all perfect.
Good government leaders are not prideful people. They admit their errors to their boss, the people, then make correction, and move on. Do you admit to your errors like all good leaders do, correct them and move on?

Whats about those who are Government officials, and gave proven FACTS to the COI? They speak up because they see and know wrong. That's not bashing, that’s FACTS.
