ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – In an effort to get community support to tackle the issue of human smuggling and illegal entry, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has reactivated the “see something, say something” initiative that was recently launched.

The recent spike in COVID-19 cases in the Virgin Islands via community transmission is being attributed to illegal entry and human smuggling.

According to the RVIPF, in a press release today, August 25, 2020, the phone number 368-9112, is once again, to be used to send texts or photographs via whatsapp of person/(s) Breaching the Curfew.

“It is also now to be used for information on persons entering the Territory illegally or persons aiding those entering the Territory illegally,” the press release stated.

It said the initiative, which was officially rolled out in April 2020, is mainly to free up the main access numbers so that other offences may be immediately reported.

“Any information given through this medium is confidential and would be given the confidence of discretion,” the RVIPF press release stated.

The Virgin Islands currently has 17 active cases of COVID-19.

If you are law abiding you don’t have to worry about the police violating you on the road. I got stop once by the police for a busted tail light that I was not aware of, I give them my info and they told me to have it fix and I went on my merry way.

The challenge is most times by the time the officers reach everything over and the persons committing the crime long gone.

It is unfortunate that the comments from the few bloggers so far has some merit. Because we know there are crooked cops who will rat out the person that gives-up info. Sad, but a fact. No matter what numbers the commissioner puts in place to contact law enforcement nobody ain't trying to be a hero for a thug to be laying in wait at your home to take you out because a cop give-up your identity. Hell no

Wondering who going to remember that complicated number? Wait I see a boat load of people landing, I want to call and report it, but ohh what is the number again. Oh let me go online and see if I can remember which news house wrote a story with it, and when was the story. Waiting to get on line, to the news site, sifting thru to find the number. . . my phone rings, it is my daughter and we talk a while and then hang up and ohhhh Forgetabout calling. . . Stupid plan, stupid number, this is why we need a new Commissioner any body else would realize this plan is just plain stupid. What was that number again? oh never mind, who can explain why 911 doesn't work? Oh I know. . . .they don't want us to call the number we know. . . the number everyone knows even children. . . wondering why???
