BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI – The United Kingdom (UK) Government has been called upon to listen to their Overseas Territories (OTs) on an individual basis if they truly want to help these territories. This is according to Virgin Islands (VI) legislator and 4th District Representative, Hon Luce D. Hodge-Smith.

“There are opportunities, they all have the necessary skills, all the necessary experiences to guide us and get us over the hump that we are now. They may not want to give us the finance, but at least give us the technical assistance.”

Mrs Hodge-Smith made the comments on the May 22, 2023, edition of Talking Points ,while speaking on the topic of the UK and what more assistance it can provide to Overseas Territories.

“And not just for prison and police, yes we have some issues, but we also have other areas that we can get assistance from,” she said.

OTs have different needs - Hon Hodge-Smith

Mrs Hodge-Smith added, “I think that if the UK generally want to help all the OTs they have to look at their individual needs because the OTs are not all the same, they have different needs,” she added.

According to Hon Hodge-Smith, the UK must therefore look and listen to OT concerns to understand where they are coming from, given the UK and its OT have individual histories.

“There’s nothing more than having your own sense of being you and having your own identity instead of someone else deciding for you, you’re under my rule, you do as I say,” she said.

Hon Luce Hodge-Smith, the UK does give a rat’s a$$ about the OTs. In fact, they were then willing to cut loose the larger sugar islands in West Indies, some of their most profitable colonies as soon they and slavery ceased to be profitable. They tried to let them go through the West Indies Federation and when that failed it turned to independence. They turn loose countries with poor economies, poor infrastructure, poor healthcare, poor education, etc. These countries are still struggling from the legacies of slavery and colonialism. The UK is still governing the last small remnants of its empire through the Colonialism construct, ie, a racial supremacy/hierarchy. The attitude was that you are an inferior being (equivalent to field animals), an out group, a underclass with a servile role that should know your place. As such, we are Lord of all we survey and we will what to do and what you need and when you will get it , if you get, and how you will. And we will not tolerate your questioning our authority or worse telling us what you want. Know your place boy and don’t be looking me eyes, thinking you are an equal. They still want to behave as if it were 1723. The UK has its own challenges so it does not give a rat’s ass about OTs . And hope their wish is fulfill, ie, all of them declare they want to go independent. A burden and a nuisance lifted.

How long will UK br able to wait on the implementation of the recommendations, especially as it becomes clearer that its a systematic, smart and deliberate stalling plan to ignore britain and have things their way. Also when Fahie and the Maynards case high light the large amt of corruption and criminality that exist in high places in the BVI..

@Sambo, the truth hurts and stinks, especially when there is no credible defense. It looks as if the best they can muster is hit the dislike button. Common cowards make it a debate, counter Sambo statements with your verifiable facts. Oh, you can’t so you just wimping out by lightly touching the Dislike button. How courageous. I gathered some snacks and a Greenie and lie in my lazy boy waiting for some fire works. But y’all forfeited. What a disappointment.

Sambo it sounds like you have a real chip on your shoulder.
Try smiling more and doing some chatting work for the less fortunate and keep off social media spreading your hate.

The truth hurt ah yu nah. Philip McCracken you are proclaiming that for telling the truth that you want to bury and pretend didn’t happened or is happening that I’m promoting hate. Loll!! You want to revise history. But you have not offer any facts to disprove the facts that I stated. Bring the facts; don’t just make false accusations. Are you afraid that your fabricated alternative facts may not add up. You are probably wishing that the planned ignorance initiative, ie, keeping some folks from learning how to read and write, had taken root? By the way, you don’t know a damn thing about what I do for the less fortunate. You may do what you do, if anything, for publicity but I don’t. Furthermore, telling the truth about the behaviors, attitudes, and atrocities of one race towards another is not hate. It is truth. I know the truth hurts; just embrace the truth and ease the hurt;it will set you free. The blind and even the Sambos can see the truth. Bring the facts to counter what I’m said. And if you bring convincing facts, ie, verifiable evidence, if will humbly yield to your position. What you say. Me nah fraid truth mehson.

The UN has been telling us to either captain our ship or integrate and let the UK do it. This quasi-state of self-governance will not last.

Luce D. Hodge-Smith On May 24 you said the UK should give the BVI resources to get us to independence you should this think before you publish this kind trash, you want help from the same country you want independence from, that’s really showing that you can take care of yourself. Now today May 27 you are saying If UK wants to help OTs 'they have to look @ their individual needs'– Hon Hodge-Smith. The question is Luce D. Hodge-Smith do you want independence or have you changed your mind in the last 3 days. Most of the people in the BVI don’t want independence because we know what will happen to us it seems like the only people who want it is the politicians and who will gain from it. Thanks you showed us who you are real quick.

Most of the richest local people are those who made their money whilst serving as Government ministers. Or via the 3rd Pillar.

Why don’t they help the BVI. The corrupt, rich. Why wait for U.K. tax payers to subsidise what is already a fairly comfortable living for the majority of BVIslanders (not work permit holders or the minimum wages).
