Ice Connection win another thriller in Winston Jagpat Memorial League on VG
Playing in the second game of the evening, Ice Connection found themselves trailing in the first two quarters but clawed their way back to level matters in the fourth quarter and eventually squeezed out a 76-74 points win.
Dione M. Blyden, with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks and 1 steal and Romain Minnot, 16 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals, were the men who shouldered the challenge for Ice Connection.
Top scoring for Lace Up were Stephano Paul (24 points, 15 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist) and Shamaar A. George (16 points, 14 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 assists).
With 13.9 seconds left on the clock, Lace Up were down by one point but had possession of the ball; however, a turnover allowed Ice connection to seal the win.
Homegrown rebound from opening night defeat
In the opening game of the evening, Homegrown rebounded from their loss to Ice Connection a week ago to overcome GameTime, 77-70.
Homegrown signaled their intentions early by dropping in 4 three’s to kick-start their stellar night.
GameTime; however, held their own and with 35.4 seconds left In the 4th quarter they only trailed by 3 points, 70-73.
Homegrown would hold their nerves to secure the win.
Frank Quashie (22 points) and Jolyon Wilson (20 points, 10 rebounds) were the main scorers for Homegrown while Darrel George (17 points) and Deondre Rymer (14 points) led Gametime’s futile challenge.
Willful Skillful maul VG Crusaders
Two games were contested on Friday evening, January 31, 2020 at the same venue.
In the first clash, VG Crusaders were blown away by Willful Skillful, 90-58.
Willful Skillful’s Diorys Joseph, who finished with 28 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals, was unstoppable.
Lanique Austine supported with 20 points and grabbed 18 rebounds.
VG Crusaders were led by T’Khoi Richardson ( 16 points, 5 rebounds) and N’Kel Stevens (14 points).
DR Power too much for LDB Explorers
After losing to GameTime on the opening night of the league, DR Power came back with renewed energy to make light work of LBD Explorers, 93-49, in the second game of the evening.
The team also rode the strong support of fans to register the convincing win.
Noel Frias had a game high 37 points and a whopping 24 rebounds as well as 3 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal to cap off a stellar night for the ‘Dominican Republic’ team.
Felix Carbajames netted 11 points and had 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists also for DR Power.
The hapless LDB Explorers were spurred on by Shakeem Smith, who made 17 points and Jaylon Levons, who ended with 11 points 5 rebounds and 2 steals.
