MELBOURNE, Australia- Australian cricket legend Ian Chappell has called for a worldwide ban on Christopher H. 'Chris' Gayle over his controversial TV interview with Channel 10 journalist Mel McLaughlin during a recent Big Bash League match.

Chappell has asked Cricket Australia (CA) to propose a worldwide contracting ban on the big-hitting West Indian following his widely-criticised sideline interview.

Chappell said CA need to show zero-tolerance towards the "totally inappropriate" behaviour.

"I wouldn't have a problem if Cricket Australia said to the clubs, 'he's never to be contracted again in this country'," Chappell was quoted as saying by the Australian Associated Press.

"And I also wouldn't have a problem if Cricket Australia said to the ICC, 'what we're doing should be worldwide'.

"You'd have to talk to the individual countries then... but I wouldn't have a problem if it was tabled at an ICC meeting that Cricket Australia said, 'this is what we're doing and we would recommend that everybody else do the same'," he said.

"How are you going to stop it otherwise?" Chappell questioned.

Gayle was fined $10,000 by his BBL side Melbourne Renegades for his on-air mid-match comments to McLaughlin.

Gayle's hopes of returning for next season's BBL could be over as he is set to be banned by CA.

Gayle invited controversy after he said he was happy to be interviewed by McLaughlin "just to see your eyes for the first time" during his sides' win over the Hobart Hurricanes on Monday.

"Nice, so hopefully we can win this game and we can have a drink after," he had said.

"Don't blush baby," the Jamaican added, prompting McLaughlin to shake her head and reply, "I'm not blushing."

Gayle later apologised for his offence, saying it was a "simple joke".

But Chappell said Gayle was a serial offender and a worldwide ban would send a strong message to up-and-coming cricketers.

"If it was a one-off thing, yeah, slap him with a $10,000 fine and say 'mate, don't do it again'," Chappell said.

"But every woman I spoke to (about Gayle) who's working at the cricket, you got the same answer from.

"They were quite adamant about it." (Times of India)

Why don't they want to take actions about the black football players and others being called all kind of racial and negative names like monkey.

Gayle should have known better and he was fined for it. this whole fiasco is just ridiculous; now all the zombies are coming out of the closet.

So it's okay to be proud to be a gay man, proud to be a faggot, but the day a man talks nicely to a pretty woman he should be banned for life from his professional sport? What the "$%& is really wrong with this world we live in today? The Kardashians are praised, Bruce Jener is praised, they are brave and rewarded but a man sweet talks a woman for 30 seconds and he should be banned for life from doing what he does to make his living? Unbelievable!!!!!

If the reporter was a black woman, they would not have made this an issue; but because she is white, they feel like she is off limits to black men. They probably heard the phrase "Once you go black, you don't go back"; that is what they are afraid of. Lol. Hold your head up Gayle. You are not the first nor will you be the last

Where is WI Cricket Board and Caricom to come to the defense of Chris Gayle. Obviously they wish to destroy the black man from making some money and hitting sixes. The reporter and other women are adults; they should know to answer yes/no. He did not touch, molest or stalk anyone yet being demonized for asking a white woman out.
On a lighter note...I hope this teaches us black men to love our own black queens and leave those white women alone.

it seems as if My first though on this matter was true, this is about the color of his skin and not so much about what he did, a fine was enough, as i said it was unprofessional but a ban is over kill, I cam sure if you ask pass west indian players they would be the first to tell you that Ian Chappell was a stinking racist.

Ian go and crawl under a rock. Some people are of the opinion that Chris violated a social norm by asking a female reporter for a date on the tele? If the reporter were Black, would Ian take the same stand? If the reporter was a male would Ian take the same stand? If it were a White Aussie cricketer asking the reporter for a date would Ian take the same stand? Is it against any law to ask a White reporter, especially a White one , for a date on the tele? Is the the reporter woman enough to have push back against Gayle?

If Chris were gambling on the game, committed murder, abused ban substances repeatedly and commited other high crimes and misdemeanors that tarnished the intergrity of the game, I would not be averse to banning him. I do not condone his approach for asking for a date on the tele, but banning no. He paid a fine for his impish behaviour. How was the integrity of the game tarnished? Did not the same brute Ian drop his pants at Bourda?

Saying that a girl has beautiful eyes and asking her out is now harassment... (I saw the video on youtube... you can find it easy just search his name.) He was unprofessional but an international band is just RIDIC... it does lead me to believe the aussie men were racist and jealous.
