ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6), has admitted to writing to Governor Daniel Pruce regarding the now defunct Bank of Asia (BVI) Limited situation.

He revealed this during the Continuation of the Seventh Sitting of the Second Session of the Fifth House of Assembly (HoA) on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, during which he brought a Motion of No Confidence against Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Hon. Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).

“I want to make it clear that my only interest is from the government perspective. What happened in the bank that ain’t got nothing to do with me, that’s private business,” he said, adding, “As the member for the Sixth District and the Leader of the Opposition, my concern is surrounding the government’s culpability in putting five million in a bank that was showing various signs. That’s where my concern starts, and that is where it ends.”

Hon Walwyn argued that he is within his rights as a member of the Opposition to do that.

Bank of Asia & gov’t funds investigation

On May 29, 2025, the Virgin Islands Deposit Insurance Corporation (VIDIC), with the intervention of the BVI Financial Services Commission (FSC), took the necessary steps to shut down the operations of the Bank of Asia (BVI) Limited.

Hon Walwyn said during Monday’s Sitting of the HoA that he specifically asked the Premier in a previous Sitting to give me the bank balances as at the end of December 2024 and as at the end of May 2025.

The Premier, in response to the question, disclosed that the government had five million, thirty-five thousand, nine hundred and forty-seven dollars ($5,035,947.00) in the bank during a Sitting of the HoA.

“When I wrote this question, there was nothing in the atmosphere about Bank of Asia.”

In June 2025, Hon Walwyn, in a statement, said he would be writing to Governor Pruce to investigate this five-million-dollar deposit, despite Premier Wheatley calling for an internal audit to review the transaction.

The Gov. is the only one who can get the answers

Basically calling Premier Wheatley a liar for misleading the public to believe that an internal audit will be made public, Hon Walwyn said, “I wrote the Governor, that is my responsibility. I wrote the Governor and asked for a full investigation.”

He said his reason for writing to Governor Pruce was “because there is a question that needs to be answered and an audit cannot answer it properly”.

Hon Walwyn said there is no dispute that the Minister of Finance could authorise money to go to any bank.

“The law gives him authority to do that…there’s no question about that. The question is, “Why would you put five million dollars in that bank at a time when you know or ought to have known the bank was in trouble? That is the question, a[n] audit cannot answer that,” he explained.

He added that the only person who can get an answer to that question is the Governor, “through the things under his portfolio”.

I don’t hate Mr Walwyn but it is a fact that what he did with government funds on the high school wall did not sit well with taxpayers and I don’t think the country has been able to rid itself from that since then.

The Premier's silence while he stalls by commissioning an "investigation" is such an insult to the Territory's citizens. He still refuses to identify the decision-maker(s) who authorized the deposit. As for details of when it was made, and the source of the funds, answers to these questions hardly require a forensic accounting firm. In fact, in 24 hours, one could trace every part of the transaction.

The other members of the HOA can become articulate as Myron you know, but the entitlement clique of family and friends have them muzzled, cheese in them mouth, and some vex with Myron for his respect and concern for the common BVI man and woman, Myron seem to be inspired by lavity stout, his explanation in the house is articulate and understandable enough for the common man to understand and empathize with.
When natalio speaking at his turtle baby paste , it just ain't connected, and natalio as finance minister doesn't know how to speak financial language or jargon , he just a little boy with power to he head, he is bad playing poor kye rhymer from get any money to fix the road and water to out shine he as premiere of do nothing but party and traveling, giving Vybz Kartel quarter million USD and bank of Asia $5 million USD of our tax money, and send the lady to retire and go off island to stymied an investigation if the governor call one.

The VIP is in election mode every day of the year. The NDP and the Alliance have to learn that; they’ve got to come up with reasons for voters to engage and vote for them.

It boggles my mind that the VIP and their supporters are still using the $7 million plane, wall and overrun at Pier Park to blog about. We have a Complex, the refurbishing and repair of which is now over $20 million. We have $40 million squandered, yes squandered from Social Security Board. We have $250,000 for a free party. $300,000 plus for Vybz Kartel. Music Fest, $2 million; $5 million given away to BOA. Millions in rents every year because of the Complex not being completed. Hell, they blow $400 plus million, plus SAPS every year and thank God for salaries and rent that we know where some of it is going. For looking around at the infrastructure and sorry state of things, where it goes we don't know. Must be salaries, rents, travelling, vehicles for Members and gas, parties and a few supplies. Go and dig deeper for reasons for the past Government's failngs. At least the Pier Park is tangible, in use, well done and is a revenue earner. I know for sure that this country has never been in this sad state before and in the history of our country we have never spent as much money as we are now. Value for Money is not being had.
