FAT HOGS BAY, Tortola, VI– Local calypsonian Joycelyn Searles aka Sistah Joyce has blazed authorities involved in the reported transfer of an ambulance assigned to the sister island of Virgin Gorda over to the main island of Tortola over the past weekend.

Speaking on ‘Da morning Braff’ radio show with host Damian Percival on Monday, October 24, 2022, Sistah Joyce indicated that the ambulance was reportedly transferred from the island between Friday evening, October 22, 2022, and Saturday morning, leaving the island with no EMS vehicle.

“My issues with us here in the BVI right now… is the hiding of things that have to do with people’s life and their livelihood,” she added.

According to her, the ambulance on the main island was reportedly not working and as such, it was substituted with the ambulance assigned to Virgin Gorda.

Actions inhumane - Sistah Joyce

Speaking as a telephone guest, Sistah Joyce called the actions ‘inhumane’ and added, “who these instructions came from to send the one ambulance we have in Virgin Gorda… y’all are a set of idiots and inhumane people, we need to stop it!”

Sistah Joyce revealed that it wasn’t until intense lobbying towards legislators, that a barge reportedly returned the ambulance to the island, "Just to think about if something happens... it's just the principal," she said, adding that recalling the situation was giving her goosebumps.

The VI calypsonian further called on all VI legislators under the Government of National Unity and others in the House of Assembly to investigate who made the order to transfer the ambulance.

"I am pleading with the Unity Government. Yall got couple more months in there... get an ambulance for Virgin Gorda so the statutory health service cannot put people's lives in such a danger like that," she said.

'Wealthy VG residents should pitch in'

She also called on wealthy Virgin Gordians to pitch in and donate so that Virgin Gorda can have its own permanent ambulance, "that was so inhumane for the ambulance to even reach Tortola," she added.

Sistah Joyce said when the issues were raised, some legislators responded to her concerns, but others did not, "I wish we could break away from Tortola, y'all evil," she added.

Monaco model Monaco Model Monaco Model.
Too many don't haves in these Islands.
Consider this fact when building your population.

The haves should be more than the have nots that have been imported installed and killing everything including quality of life and education. A minor purchase such as an ambulance?? Each Island should have two,at least.

For 1- the ambulance that is in Vigin Gorda was provided from Tortola because VG fire department never purchased one.
2- You have 2 ambulances assigned to VG one was in use and the other had to be sent to Tortola for repairs
3- provisions were made for VG ambulance in the interim.
Do you really want to disconnect from Tortola? When you speak make sure you have all the facts.

For one you need to ask was the ambulance a problem before the vaccine, and how many people been picked up with COVID before the vaccine? Pull the records and you can see what's sending people to call the ambulance. You would do that homework so stop talking what's not important.

None of them is going to send their children to sit in a classroom that is full of mold. They think their children is better than the average children. They could care less about the average children. I often wonder if they allow their children to play and interact with the average children.

That was appalling. Who are responsible to ensure important vehicles like ambulances, fire trucks, police and prison vehicles are kept maintained? What is the life span of these vehicles and who must ensure they are replaced? Somebody needs to be held accountable! It is shameful! Thank you Sistah Joyce for so passionately bringing this issue to the public. I must however commend junior minister Hon. Flax Charles for immediately calling into the program and giving an update on the issue as well.

How many ambulances are on Tortola? Ambulance services are vital to the health, safety, and well-being of BVI residents. Consequently, the BVIHSA should have one or more in reserve to substitute for ambulances offline for service. Additionally, ambulances should be highly maintained and in a high state of operational readiness. The BVI is remotely located and should have critical parts on the shelf. Given the terrain, ambulances should be replaced at a more frequent rate than in perhaps other places.

VG needs their own power plant, imagine if some drunk inEast End hits a pole the entire island of VG is out of power. Something has to be done, it was this way since Ralph was in council, nothing done. Thanks for bringing this issue to the table Sister Joyce, hopefully something will be done real soon.

I’m on Tortola and i’m with Sista Joyce. Tortola is a beautiful island but the people are very selfish and jealous set of people. The favoritism is killing the island especially with drugs, guns and other craziness involved. Tortola in a barrel and the people in all sectors are crabs. Virgin Gorda points out the criminals while Tortola hide them and called them the realest ever lived.
