ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has extended congratulations to Barbados Prime Minister Mia A. Mottley on her recent recognition by Time Magazine.

Mottley was listed among Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2022, appearing on one of the five global covers released on Monday, May 23, 2022.

The Barbados PM joined the likes of President Joseph R. Biden and Ukraine President Volodymyr O. Zelenskyy on the list, which honors pioneers in various industries, recognising their contributions and achievements.

Bold & fearless

The magazine said Mottley is a bold and fearless icon in her country who possesses intellect and wit.

It described her as a brilliant politician who knows how to shake things up.

“From poverty to debt to climate change, she is a vocal advocate on the world stage for responsible stewardship of our planet, so that nations large and small and people rich and poor can survive and thrive together,” it said of Mottley.

‘Strong leadership & advocacy’

Alongside a photograph of himself and Mottley, published on his Facebook page on Monday, May 30, 2022, Dr Wheatley wrote: “Better late than never! Congratulations to my Caricom colleague Prime Minister Mia Mottley who continues to inspire all of us with her strong leadership and advocacy!”

Dr Wheatley also described Mottley as being full of knowledge and wisdom, which he has benefitted from.

“I am happy that Time Magazine has recognized what an influential and powerful leader she is. I benefit from her knowledge and wisdom, and I look forward to learning from her as much as possible.”

Mottley is the second woman prime minister in the Caribbean region to make the list behind Portia Simpson Miller in 2012.

Other notable women on this year’s TIME100 Most Influential People List include Oprah Winfrey, Issa Rae, Zendaya, Mary J. Blige and Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.

They say that you are never too old to learn. I am not a fan of you, but I respect your position and hope the you are sincere about learning and leading us in the right direction. Don't just say it because it sounds good, do it because it is the right thing to do.

Like I said, I'm not a fan of his, but back the %^$ off and let's see what he has. If he had what it took, he would not be looking to Mia. The mare fact that he's humble enough to look towards someone that has proven herself, we stand a chance. If we want the BVI to be respected among other nations again, we have to give our leader a chance. Fortunately or unfortunately it's Wheatley. I'm sick of where we are at as a territory, but I'm even more sick of you people who insist on doing NOTHING but fanning the flames. Shut the @&%$ up and give the man a chance.

When the trade dept In Barbados was going to shut down vendors in Barbados for not have a license,, She said to them no one will touch you all, continue you all business, continue putting food on you all table and sending you all Kids to school,, those people who are anxious to shut you all down are all product of vendors one way or the other, now how can they after been educated become so ungrateful...So the fenders were allowed to continue without harassment. That's my lady, the realist.

You are looking forward to learning from her however are you going to listen and take her advice. As a woman, I will continue to say we need a female Premier and a all female cabinet. It is time for the boys to step back and allow the women to fix and run the territory in the manner that it should. Men always want to be in control and in actuality, they have no control of anything even though they seems to think and act that way. They don’t and can’t have control of their anatomy so how can they have control of anything else?

Oh dear. Lead by the likes of Patsy. No thanks. Leadership is not man/woman black/white it about people with honour and integrity and a desire to serve the people of the VI and not themselves.

Prime Minister Mia Mottley is a political heavy weight and a bright, rising regional political star. She is a political intellectual with effective political insight and instinct. She is a strong leader and manager, an effective communicator with passion, stature, and commanding presence. Taking the interest in and learning from her is a priceless and invaluable time investment with great return. If the Caribbean were to put the interest of the people, of the region, before political self-interest, ie, holding on to discrete national sovereignty, and unite and forged some type of central regional unit, ie, federation, etc, she would be eminently qualified to lead it.

Bajans say ‘Give Jack he jacket.’ PM Mia Mottley is the real deal. Give Jill she jacket. She is strong land successful leader, so it is smart and wise of Premier Natalio Wheatley to seek her sage counsel. I saw some mumu say she is from down island. That is clearly a mumu talking out of his:her a$$. But appreciatively you were not listening to the mumu. You give Jill she jacket.

Premier Wheatley, don’t listen to naysayers. You have enough sense to reach out to someone who has shown herself to be a successful leader, unlike those before you. We need new ideas that will work for the entire BVI and by taking that first step for us, we will back you 100% because we cannot go backwards. Let’s hope you can learn from Prime Minister Mottley and start living the way we should have been many years ago. Lets make the BVI beautiful again. It’s a big job, but we can do this, we have no choice.

For a person to be able to run a country, one must be able to run his own affairs first.put God first, family especially your children and then all else. Your children should be able to say that’s my dad I want to be like him.

Premier Mia Mottley has proven that she is a defender of human rights, especially the people of Barbados. I don't know for sure, but I believe that she depends on the knowledge and wisdom of God our Creator and put her made her people's needs her priority, especially the under previledled ones first. I you, current BVI Premier truly desires to learn from her, you must first acknowledge the sourse of her knowledge, and wisdom. She is humans susceptible to and do comitted errors. We all do.
Rather than acknowledged God's leadership to lead us out of the great mess that we are experiencing daily, Spiritually, socially medically, and economically. your focus is on Barbados Premier Mrs. Mia Mottley has been misaddressed. You too will fail sooner than you think. The greatest acknowledgement, thanks praise, and all true worship belong to the Almighty Creator, factual truth.
