ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI –Senor Legislator and Opposition Member in the Virgin Islands (VI) House of Assembly (HoA), Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) said he has no objections to any new lockdown as a measure to control the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in the Territory.

“I think it’s the only way you’re going to bring people close to doing the things they need to do, so I have no problems with that,” Hon Fraser had said in an Opposition a press conference on Wednesday, August 26, 2020.

Even as the Territory is on a 14-day 5:00 am -5:00 pm partial lockdown, there are now 38 active COVID-19 cases and Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) announced last evening August 30, 2020, that the Territory could move into another 14-day, 24/7 lockdown pending Cabinet approval.

He said the move was decided by a majority of legislators in the House of Assembly (HoA) at an emergency meeting, however, he did not say who objected or supported the plan.

Co-exist with virus – Hon Penn

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), at Wednesday's Opposition press conference, had urged the Government to find a way to co-exist with COVID-19 and strike a balance between health and safety and the business community, in order to mitigate the effects of the pandemic on the economy.

At that time the Territory had just 21 active COVID-19 cases, however, it remains unclear if Hon Penn voted for or against the 24/7 lockdown at yesterday's virtual HoA meeting.

Premier Fahie said Cabinet will decide on the lockdown by this afternoon, August 31, 2020, where a majority of the Cabinet members are already Members of the HoA and then an announcement will be made by the Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL).

According to the Virgin Islands Constitution, Order 2017, the VI Cabinet consists of the Premier, four other Ministers and one ex officio member, namely the Attorney General and is Chaired by the Governor, a non-member.

The public basically knows who the ones that support and who objected to the plans are. The ones that objected, knows they will get a roasting on line that will make the Friars Club look like a beginner. This is one of the reasons I like Fraser, he keep S**t real, he is for the lock down and he said it. The ones that objected, don’t have the Mountain Oysters to go Public and say they object or the reason why.

If people would learn to listen and respect rules we would not be going into lockdown again.
When we are in lockdown and anyone is found on the street without a valid reason, they need to be fined and their license suspended for a year.
For those an bike's, their bikes need to be confiscated along with the fine.
If you have nothing to be on the street for stay in your homes and find something constructive to do.

Notice the "I" have no problem with lockdown? You arent there to represent your interests.. You are there to represent OUR interest. Did you check with the people of the 3rd to get their thoughts and ideas? Do you know if WE have a problem with it? You 13 in there are clearly out of touch with the small people who you are supposed to be representing.

Fraser doesn't care! He is in his big mansion collecting his pension FOR LIFE! He is good, he doesn't even leave his house outside of going to HOA, so because he is comfortable and it doesn't affect him, of course he will agree with it and to hell with us. The Politicians that love to have people like sheep will all love it because they know out of a lock down will come beggars. Imagine they haven't given any assistance yet from the first lock down months ago but he is here bold face saying he is in favor. The food we are stocking up from the supermarkets cause far more health problems than COVID and we are here stupidly and blindly going along with every dumb decision the government makes.

Of course Mr Fraser has no problems with the lockdown. His salary and the rest of the benefits attached to his job (that he, as the majority of the HoA, doesn't fulfill satisfactorily) come on time, as scheduled without any cuts or hiccups.

Premeir Fahie each time I have heard you speak you have made reference to knowing and believing in God (which I felt good about). However, your actions are showing me different. Please encourage your people to pray and this is not a joke. These are serious times that call for serious measures. Prayer is the way out. There are those folks who are going to continue to do foolishness whether lockdown or no lockdown. I feel like the innocent is suffering for the guilty. I feel that your administration could have put a stop to smuggling, but you all are always scared to touch people. There should be no such word as ‘scared’ associated with someone who says the know and believe in God. You have to make the right decision. The people who are encouraging another lockdown don’t know God and his mighty powers. They are the ones who are going to still be able to collect a salary and not worry the many people who will not get any money. What about the KIDS in these homes who will be unable to provide. It’s not an easy decision, but you can’t keep running from it. I remember hearing people bragging about home being COVID free, but now what. God wants us to wake up and put our strength and energy in him not this world. Guess what if you lockdown many more will come after just to show you you are not GOD.

The BVI people are so Divided on this issue....Civil servants on the the right supporting the lock down and the private industry workers on the left against the lock down... Each has their own personal interest at heart.... Now to bring everyone together... Govt either pay everyone to stay home or Govt pay no one for staying... Then the country will be united...
