ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has indicated he has no plans for ruthless campaigning for the upcoming political campaign season and will be focusing on the people and defending his record in office.

“I don't plan to campaign against anyone. My campaign will be a conversation with the people of the Seventh District and the people of the Virgin Islands about what it is the vision that we have,” he told reporters during a Friday, October 6, 2022, press conference.

“For the Virgin Islands, of course, we'll be able to campaign on what we've accomplished while we've been in office and what it is we plan to do to make their lives better and, of course, the reform is a part of this.

'Tough conversations'

“We'll be able to tell the people of the Virgin Islands that we didn't basically leave governance the way we met it. There are some real challenges in governance, not just yesterday, for over a number of years and we were able to tackle some of the big challenges in reform, even though it's a difficult process,” he said.

The Premier said in some cases the reform was a painful but necessary process and that is the type of leadership that has to be presented to the people of the Virgin Islands.

The Premier also warned the voting demographic to beware of those who will tell fantasy stories in order to get votes.

“You're going to have some persons coming to you selling you stories that things would be a lot better under me, [them].. the milk and honey will flow...but we have to be able to have the tough conversations and tackle the tough issues and show real leadership,” he added.

The Unity Government of Dr Wheatley is yet to announce a date for elections constitutionally due by the second quarter of 2023.

Premier Wheatley has indicated he wishes to lead the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) into the 2023 elections and will be seeking the approval of the VIP Congress.

Of this island with a population of roughly 30,000, people, what is the voting population please?
    • Stats of last election (12/10/2022, 18:24) Like (1) Dislike (0) Reply
Approximately 5600 of the voting public is responsible for electing the government! Majority of working residents and investors living in the Vi represent some 75% of the population, however are not qualified as voters!

So there are 15% of the population called locals who wield voting rights. Aka bvi landers and belongers

The BVI is far from the democracy the government claims it is. The exact number of people eligible to vote is available right now because the voter register has just been published. Its not however a number the government wants people to know. Its probably around one third of the adult population, one of the lowest percentages in the world.

Natalio you are the biggest disappointment in BVI history even worst than Fahie and the people will be waiting for you and the VIP at the polls if there is an election. From the beginning, you and VIP stood back and allow the banks and Insurance companies to take advantage of the BVI people.

The Insurance companies told us we were underinsured and the banks told us that we are given an honorarium and when the time comes rather than putting it at the back of the loan they expect us to pay it at the present moment.

And when you object they threaten or sell your property. Instead of behaving like lending institutions, they are behaving like loan sharks.

They are horrible including or own local bank. They need regulating terribly. As for the those based in Pr whenever bad weather passes through Puerto Rico whose economy is dead they squeeze BVIslanders to compensate for their losses allegedly.

These are the issues plaguing your people who are paying the highest insurance in the region but as usual, you will do nothing but give your people smiles and hugs. Saying the Governor doesn’t understand the Tender process and laughing at the voters in their faces, the people are fed up of you and the Vip, NDP, and Unity Governments.

I wonder who is really responsible for regulating these banks and insurances? I can never believe Government or the financial services these people allowing these banks and insurances to thief the people of this territory with their eyes wide open. You all don't have any backbone you all need to investigate these companies. Dive into the way they do business in the territory. There are hidden glitches in some of these banking systems that the public dont know about that's why a lot of people's loans are not going down as they should. Go take up random people loans and audit them you would be surprised to see what you find. Insurances will send people bankrupt. They steal so much that they are laughing at clients.

Can anyone tell the public where the salvage money went that the insurances stole from every single person that had insurance claims on vehicles after the hurricane.
If the financial services can't give an answer to this question it means some is wrong because they had to declare their finances every year in order to stay incorporated. Red flags where is the salvage money? If they withheld it from government or the people they stole it from I guarantee they will loose more. Injustice never done. Everyone houses was underinsured for every adjuster that came to this territory. Like they helped us build our houses. Pay people for what they were insured for and stop cheating the people. Set of criminals who need to be locked up came in to work and helped every insurance company to RIP off the people of this territory. That is sad sad sad. I wonder how they could sleep when night come knowing they RIP off the territory.

I'm gonna say this and a lot of people are not going to like this statement but I'm gonna state the obvious. As long as you can join a service group here in this territory you can get away with almost anything in this territory and that is sad. Yes we are doing our civil duty giving back to the territory. Yea right it's no more giveing for nothing because when some gonna seek to inherit property and other areas for their development and the government fully well know what is happening and approve the territory treasure that belongs to the people of this territory you know our government was corrupt. Thanks to the COI in disguise. If that COI didn't come we would not have known a lot of things.

Definitely in support of him, I don’t live there but I’m my last visit( which is rarely) I encountered him at several community events and a funeral. You can tell this man is for his community. I’m the first to scream dishonesty and I just don’t get that from this guy. I wish him well and hope he is the next elected Premier...Good Luck !

The main reason why you, Hon. Premier Dr. Natalio Sajande Wheatley have planned not to campaign against any cadidate that may contest your seat as D7 representative is that you have defended their best interest. Time is running out fast against.
Even as Premier you and your cabinet will not be able to fulfilled your expect duties in D7 nor in the BVI at large.

Hon. Carvin Malone, now an opposition member, is a true VIP in heart, not you. You only desire the VIP's support so that you may get re-elected.

Your Grandfather, now deceased represented both D7 & D8 when they were one district. He was elected twice. His second term, he was blessed, and became the Chief of the BVI
When Lavity Hamilton Stout regained political political power, it was he that that made East End/LongLook/Fat Hog's Bay/Green Land/Fahie hill, and to Brandywine Bay that consisted of one district into two, now called D7 & D8.
The third time when you Grandfather, Willard Wheatley contested now district 8th, he was defeated because of he had not performed to the expectation of the people that had voted him in power. For the same reason, in my honest opinion, and many eligible voters too, will reject you as their representative of D7.

Those who have or He/she who has sowned the seeds of division among the people, shown incompetence of leadership, will surely reap the fruit of rejection by the people.

it has been a disappointing 6 months since your took up the top spot in government.
not only is there still no representation in district 1, any time one attempts to make contact with any of the hon members of the unity party, you get stonewall. you are not for the people. you ignore the people unless they have some high standing in the community and you need to be seen to pander to their needs. at least the true vip members who are not now in the representation since they were asked to leave, at least they still have the people in their hearts and take the time to discuss issues with anyone who needs to be heard, regardless of their colour and regardless of their origin.
Ive supported VIP for over 35 years, but not this time with you and your team at the helm. unity party the biggest disappointment since hearing AF was arrested...but at least he cared for the people

WHAT is his record in his district. Tell u of one tangible program or project you have implemented in your district.
Your district has the worst roads in the BVI. There is little or no progress on a sewage system being banged about for the last 15 years. Rampant drug use and vagrants. No youth program. No employment program. No sports program. What's the record about?
