ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Labour and Trade, Honourable Lorna G. Smith, OBE (AL) has once again made it clear that she is in complete support of the government in which she is serving.

On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, during the continuation of the Nineteenth Sitting of the First Session of the Fifth House of Assembly (HoA) of the Virgin Islands, Hon Smith rose to give her contributions to the debate on the BVI Health Services Authority Amendment Bill 2024. She said sometimes she is reluctant to do so and speak on bills she supports as the impression inferred is that she is on the wrong side and unsupportive of the government.

“Madam Speaker, I want to make it clear for the millionth time that I am very supportive of the side that I am on,” she explained to the House, adding that she speaks the truth.

“I see what everybody else sees. I listen and I was sent here to represent the people of this Territory, as an At Large Representative especially, I speak on matters that are of concern to the Territory.”

Following the general elections of 2023, Hon Smith who ran on a National Democratic Party (NDP) ticket, crossed the floor to join the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), giving them the one-member majority to form the Government led by Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7). The VIP had won six out of thirteen seats.

Support Bill in principle- Hon Smith

Hon Smith went on to say that she supports the BVI Health Services Authority Amendment Bill 2024,” in principle”.

She warned; however, that the members of the HoA cannot afford to do a “cut and paste job” or a “cookie cutter job” with this bill and said she looked forward to the House entering the committee stage for this bill where she hopes a “deep dive” will be taken into it.

The BVI Health Services Authority Amendment Bill 2024 fulfils one aspect of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) Recommendations.

Why does the Hon Lorna Creque Smith has to keep reminding us to what side she is temporarily supporting? Are there doubts about the strength of her support? Is the constant explaining, a sign, symptoms of something deeper , some uncertainty? Is she truly supportive of where she is at or it is a convenient opportunity? Is the action akin to valence, free electrons, in an atom? Actions speak louder than words.

I'm one of those who only saw the headline and didn't read the article. So I'll comment on the headline. At least she out a the corner with the people and on the side of her colleagues. Not sure of the side is good or bad

Personal Choices To Self Destination And Also Of The Majority OF A Collective People Mindset Will Determine The Future Outcome of Prosperity Or The Ruin Of A People And Country, Whether It Be Here Or There.

God our Creator and Most High Spiritual Father gave His angels and human freedom of choice whether to side with good or evil.
The path of evil leads to a dead end irretractible. While it is true that a measure of self satisfaction and pleasurous sensitive feelings are being experience on this journey, if a change of mind is continue being rejected, the outcome will be the same or similar fate of 1500 plus persons that lost their lives, been passengers, on its first voyage.

Some May Not Be Happy With The Following.

In its truest sense the word serve does not applied to self service, neither generally nor politically, but in a certain sense, if you cooked your owned food and no other or others are present to serve yourself.

However, what I were able to gather from Hon. Lorna Smith's position is that whether things are being done right or wrong, she is satisfied with being on the side she currently on.
It is simple to understand. If you, others and I done like her position, we too are given from God freedom of choice coming next general election day.

politically speaking Lorna should stay with VIP because on the other side Lorna would have been a Backbencher

The only one on the current opposition side with clean fingers is Hon Mitter because PVIM and NDP are the same bitter past

Honourable Smith, I voted for you and I did not vote for the BVI because of ignorance, that is what you are focusing on, we are in the worst crisis that the BVI is going through, the administration of shame and then at the moment that you made the jump because of the confusion of the divisionists

Mindful of the words spoken. How can anyone with ethics and moral values keep supporting that which is destroying the Territory. All members of the present administration should put aside political gimmicks and do that which is right. Stop supporting the irresponsible erratic actions of an immature nonchalant leader.
