BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- Social commentator and host of Honestly Speaking, Pastor Claude O. Skelton-Cline, has said he is not in favour of recycling politicians.

Continuing with Part 5 of What We Know Is Not True on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Skelton-Cline said politicians and leaders need to acknowledge when they are in the wrong and take the necessary steps to fix it. Politicians in power, he said, must do the right thing even if it means being voted out in the next election cycle.

“Some of us keep living in yesterday, and what some of us don’t seem to understand is that yesterday is not coming back. This is why I am no longer in favour of recycling politicians. You've been in the scene 12, 16, 20 years; move off the scene.”

‘We don’t want a succession plan’

This is a good example of succession planning, he added, saying that while there have been talks about the need for it, “a piss poor job” has been done of any real succession plans in any area of the Virgin Islands’ economy and local government agencies.

“We do a poor plan; we really don’t want a succession plan. We really don’t want the things that we talk about because it’s going to mean that we must change, and we are not prepared to change. We’re prepared to talk about change.”

He said all the young people who offered themselves for elections in 2019 should now be in positions, receiving mentorship and the requisite training in different areas.

“So that when they come on the scene, they’re not coming as fresh and brand new and not knowing the system. We’re going to have to be intentional about our leadership and not just drifting in the wilderness.”

Yesterday, he reiterated, is not coming back, no matter how much reminiscing is done.

“If we want a better tomorrow, we’re going to have to make some different decisions.”

Well they say all 12 must go except Myron, so let's see how serious the country is.
