‘I am an ally of the VIP'- Claude O. Skelton-Cline

BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- Social Commentator and Pastor Claude O. Skelton-Cline has described himself as an “ally” of the current Virgin Islands Party (VIP) government.

During the Tuesday, September 9, 2025, airing of his program ‘Honestly Speaking’ on ZBVI 780 AM titled ‘The Crisis is Now’, Skelton-Cline said he is now politically independent.

“I’ve worked with NDP, wore that badge. I’ve worked with VIP, wore that badge. Now I wear the badge of an independent; yet I’m an ally of the sitting government for personal, for business reasons," he explained. 

I have to be an ally of VIP 

Skelton-Cline said while he is an independent, he has to be an ally of any sitting government as it is “important” and “critical” because they must be successful and that “the quality of all our lives depends on it”. 

He, however, explained that while he is an ally of the government, he is always prepared to criticise when necessary. 

“Don’t get it twisted, and don’t get Skelton-Cline twisted. There are times we’re going to have to call each other on the carpet in the interest of country.”

According to Pastor Skelton-Cline ‘in the interest of country” should not be used only as a political phrase but must reflect in the patterns of behaviours and decisions made. 

It cannot be “the constant fallout of relationships”.
