LONG BUSH, Tortola, VI- Spanish Mother’s Day was celebrated in a big way with the annual Spanish Mother’s Day Concert held on May 25, 2025.

The event organised by AEGL Production Ltd, also known as The Edge, saw the Long Bush Basketball Court transformed.

Mothers were the night’s focus, highlighting their love, resilience, and dedication with what was described as an unforgettable night of music and festivity.

The event was supported by hundreds of patrons who were entertained by Dominican artist Eudis El Invencible and his band, the night’s main act.

Event celebrates the large Spanish community in VI

Mr Leroy James, Co-owner of The Edge, told our news centre today, Monday, June 2, 2025, the recognition of Spanish Mother’s Day in the Virgin Islands (VI) is an “appreciation initiative”, adding, “Our business in Long Bush serves a large Spanish community.”

He also said the event was greatly supported as the mothers came out dressed in their elegant wear. “It was a great night.”

Mothers also received raffle prizes during the event.

Spanish Mother’s Day Concert one of many events

The Spanish Mother’s Day Concert is just one of many events put on by The Edge during the year. Domino tournaments, Car Shows, Sound Competitions, Basketball Tournaments, and Softball Tournaments have all been organised by The Edge.

The Edge has also sponsored cultural events in the VI and in a statement said, “As the company continues to host and support events, the community can look forward to even more celebrations that unite people through music, tradition, and shared joy.”

According to The Edge, the concert’s success was made possible with the support of fans, sponsors and local authorities.

The event was sponsored by Caribbean Cellars, Brugal, Johnny Walker, Corona, and TICO (BVI) Ltd.

The Edge also thanked the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, Magistrate Court, Inland Revenue Department, Trade Department, Recreation Trust, Labour Department, Immigration Department, and Passport Office.

“Their cooperation and guidance have played a pivotal role in ensuring smooth and successful events year after year.”

I understood the Premier to be advocating for assimilation within Virgin Islands society rather than the creation of a sub-culture. I thought that this approach would negatively influence their long-term residency. Furthermore, why are individuals being granted a work permit and status if they are unable to communicate in the language of their employer or the community?
