we need to make these events more about what they were really about, our emancipation from slavery, not these vulgar displays in the streets

Emancipation from slavery includes a lot more than just freedom from forced labor. Seems like you want to force your definition of morality on strangers.

So what do you think the slaves were doing when they were freed? All the things they couldnt do before on the plantations such as dancing and singing.

after slavery we were free to sleep with our women again freely thus the vulgarity. But what gets me is how we allow former slavemaster to dance in our celebration & grind our women when the hold thing was to escape his @## where they do dat at!

Maybe if you put as much energy into pleasing your woman as you do bashing the non existent slave masters you wouldn’t be so insecure strupes!

@ Equalizer-Let’s be fair here!! Do you know that blacks also enslaved blacks?? We too were slavemasters so what’s the relevance? Same story different masters. Let’s be mindful and be real here. We’re still not free but we can still flex.

Please be reminded that it was black leaders who were capturing his own black people and sell them to the slave master. They used to capture them and have them there until the master arrived. I don't know why these facts are not mentioned too

You are brainwashed to believe that lie. Why then were they not know for exporting masses of slaves from Africa to Europe before European conquest of Africa?

Once Africa was colonized & the gun held to the heads of natives the colonizers after killing local leaders made it clear to advantageously positioned villages its either your remaining family get killed, end up as a slave or help us. But it was never as clean as that.

There were many instances of WARS in Africa between Europeans and natives during the period of colonialization. Why do you think they speak English in the heart of Africa?

Cmon man you dont go around spreading that white washed BS. That's equal to saying the Jews walked into the concentration camps of their own accord. That half truth equals a big lie because they were coerced & mandated to go!

Educate yourself. Why do you think there are European style castles on the coast of west Africa?????

I don't understand when our Government is going put a stop to this celebration of debauchery. 90% of those out in these perverted activities/events are not knowledgeable about why the celebrations exist. I am so embarrassed about the way we as a people behave at such a momentous celebration. Where are the morals and values? Women, men, young girls and boys behaving themselves so lasciviously and lewd...some dressed like prostitutes, others practically naked. Don't get me wrong, I myself use to participate in these trifling activities as an ignorant teen but as I matured, I realized how foolish I'd been and how ridiculous the events and music was. It's no wonder why there are so many broken homes and failed relationships and marriages in the BVI and world today. Everything is so highly sexualized that no one seems to think past the physical. Maturity suppose to come with age but it's clear to see that that's not always the case. What gets me most is to see Government officials participating alongside such decadence. These politicians are really just about being re-elected, not about the people because when you know better you should do better and as a Leader, one should always stand for what is right despite of the repercussions. Festival is a JOKE and anyone with sense can see that. What's sad is that some adults even take their children out to these nonsense...so what do we expect from the youth coming up? SHAME ON ALL OF YOU!
