Hundreds of students assisted @9th District Back to School Fiesta

SPANISH TOWN, Virgin Gorda, VI- Over 400 students, parents and volunteers showed up for the 2025 9th District Back to School Fiesta on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Jeffrey Caines Arena in Virgin Gorda.

Hosted by Hon Vincent O. Wheatley, the 9th District Representative, the day-long event was filled with fun, learning, and connection. 

Hon Wheatley, Minister for Health and Social Development, following the event, told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), “This event highlights the community spirit that is alive and well.”

He added that the Back to School Fiesta is an excellent community event for all to enjoy.

Book bags & school supplies

In addition to the food, fun and games, parents and students received much-needed back-to-school assistance. 

During the event, students received backpacks with books, pencils. geometry sets, and other school supplies. They also received vouchers for food, school supplies, hair and uniforms, Hon Wheatley revealed. 

A motivational speech, self-care and community mental health activities were also conducted at the annual event. 

The 2025/2026 Academic Year officially begins tomorrow, Monday, August 25, 2025, with a Professional Day and Summer Institute which will be held under the theme ‘Full S.T.E.A.M Ahead: Future Focused, Student Led’.

    Thanks to all the people and companies who made this a success. However i would like to see if we can get the same energy for the basket ball teams this year. Youths need the whole territory to help keep them motivated. Whatever sports and other valuable activities they are involved in please show up and streach out your hands towards them.
