PURCELL ESTATE, Tortola, VI – Local non-profit The Humane Society of the BVI which is an animal shelter in the Virgin Islands (VI), has received a donation of $100K from a late supporter of the organization.

Since 1975, the organization has offered a shelter to dogs, puppies, cats & kittens that have been abandoned, are unwanted and in some cases severely abused

In a Facebook post on Friday, May 24, 2024, the society said, “Thank you is simply not enough for this amazing donation which was left by the late Jason Helmbrecht who sadly passed away last year. A massive lover of four-legged furballs, despite being allergic.”

The check was presented by Jason's partner, Ms Tiffany Doyle to the Shelter Manager for the sum of $100,000.00.

The society added, “This donation has made a huge difference and Jason will always be in our thoughts and always be a part of the shelter.”

These funds have gone towards the new shelter built with the society expressing gratitude to both Tiffany and the family of Jason for the timely donation.

With an attitude like yours, you wonder why they would rather look after animals than you

Yes they rather donate to animals and I don’t blame them. Pets need care too and most of the time they are innocent victims.

@ Not us. You humans can take care of yourselves. The poor 4 legged creatures cannot take care of themselves, and they are not mean and sarcastic. They are happy for all of the love they get and give to their nice humans. This was a very nice and thoughtful donation. He had a good heart and loved all animals.

People can donate to the charities that are closer to their hearts. The schools will and always have gotten money to improve their buildings. It is up to the people and government to make sure the children have a proper and safe place to study. Every donation does not always have to be for people.

The Humane Society is a charity; and only survives because of generous people like Jason and Tiffany. If you are going to criticise, blame the government for not looking after its people, education and roads.

After the hurricane, a plane came and took away all the animals from the shelter and left us to fend for ourselves.
    • @Not us (26/05/2024, 08:56) Like (10) Dislike (0) Reply
That’s because we can fend for ourselves. The animals cannot. Get your head out your a$$ and go raise some money for a charity of your choice. But you don’t sound like the kind of person who cares about anyone but yourself so… we will all do what we choose and leave you be

Our government does that same... waste money on projects while people could use a direct deposit.

This is how incompetent our government is to not budget towards that cause.

Government has no facilities for stray animals & no humanity towards them. Every society has stray animals & stocks domesticated farm animals to protect the breeds, to ignore this critical infrastructure is poor governance and lack of common decency. Government's stray animals get killed & dumped at the incinerator. Private support for it should not be a bandaid or excuse for them continue doing that to animals.

Good donation otherwise. Government is OK spending millions on entertainment while the least among us -the animals, environment & people- suffer, recall when the chickens in road town were to be poisoned. We need a shift in thinking & accountability with the current expenses... not more private funding.

@ all the dumb comments about caring about the dog more. I bet you treat the dog better than your family. I bet your dog is eating better than the homeless people on the street. You all spend 30.00 or more for one bag of dog food but never went around and gave a homeless 5.00 each but you all can donate 100,000 dollars to dogs wow. The government definitely knows what they are doing. Dog over humans wow. I NEVER heard money being donated to the homeless or disability people

This was a donation left in someones will. Government do not give monies to non profits.

For an island that is supposed to be full of Christians there are some very wicked people that troll with their comments.
Show some respect, this man passed away well before his time leaving behind a grieving partner and family. You make assumptions that this was his only legacy!!!!!!! Some people just cant do anything but bring negativity. RIP.

BVI full o ugly, greedy 2 legged animals looking for a handout. Help yourselves, quit waiting to feed off the government tit. Animals fend for themselves and are treated like shit by bvi islanders. Good on Jason for wanting his money to go where there is need and unconditional love. Greed raises its ugly human head among these comments. Wonder where we really should concentrate on spaying and neutering. BVI is getting uglier every day, and it’s the born here doing it. Shame.
