Huggins highlights ESHS track C/ships with new Record!
Running in lane 4 and holding off a tough challenge from Tarika Moses, who came second in 12.28, L’Tsha Fahie who finished third in 12.48, Kala Penn who came fourth in 12.58 as well as a bevy of other speedsters, Huggins not only lowered her Personal Best, but also lowered the National Schools record, the junior record and also the National Youth record.
She is now number 5 all time in the territory.
Whilst Huggins’ performance was undoubtedly top of the pile from day one there were several other stellar runs and throws as Meet Director, Angeleta Bernard pointed out “All in all the day worked out very well and broke several records” she noted, “Leshaun Lyndo also broke a school record with his 100m time of 12.61 as did D’jimon Gumbs and Beyonce Defreitas.”
At the end of the first day Fleming House have the overall lead with 401 points, Carlisle are second on 327, O’Neal sit third on 317 and Lettsome, despite the efforts of Huggins are fourth on 301.
The Cheerleading Competition drew the largest crowd of the day with the main stand packed to the rafters as the teams gymnastically gyrated with dazzling routines and teasing chants. There can only be one winner though as Ms. Bernard pointed out, “They all did so well and I want to thank to Heather Butcher who has been very faithful to the Competition over the years.”
Fleming were overwhelmingly the crowd favourite as well as the Judges garnering 401 points to take the trophy ahead of Carlisle on 336, O’Neal on 326 and Lettsome on 317.
Weather permitting, and no word has been received from the School that there will be a further postponement due to this morning’s heavy rains , Day two will feature more records tumbling and athletes vyeing for Victor and Victrix as well as Divisional Champion honours.
Lakeisha Warner and Tarika Moses will be running as will Huggins. There will be 200’s, 800’s and 4 x 400’s to wet the appetitie as well as a special open Shot Put Event featuring the Gumbs Girls with World Youth Championship Qualifying at stake.

We need to do a much better job on weather coverage. We have had inclimate weather all morning long and there was no coverage via the radio, tv etc. to inform residents about the possible dangerous situations they might be heading into ....not good! On top of that we know that we have our annual track and field events and have not planned adequately to protect the athletes from performing in murky conditions or reducing the likelihood of injury...absolutely outrageous!
Congrats to Zaki, Nelda, Kyron and the Gumbs twins for record breaking performaces also. Big up to all the athletes and wish you guys well for the contiuation of the sports and future events!
Encourage the rest of your team mates to strive for excellence.
Big up to ALL the students who competed for their Houses
