House Speaker to deliver keynote address @ Women’s Leadership Conference

CHRISTCHURCH, Barbados- The Honourable Corine N. George-Massicote, Speaker of the House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands, will deliver the keynote address at the upcoming Caribbean Women’s Transitional Leadership Conference, slated for Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in Barbados.

The conference is being hosted by the Caribbean Women in Leadership (CIWiL) in partnership with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), the Commonwealth Secretariat, ParlAmericas, and other development partners. 

The event aims to enhance the leadership capacity of women in politics, the private sector, and community development across the Caribbean.

Speaker's participation is a 'valuable addition'

Ms Jennifer Namgyal, Head of the Gender Section within the Commonwealth’s Social Development, Youth and Gender Directorate, emphasised that Speaker George-Massicote’s demonstrated leadership and her significant contributions to regional advancement when conveying the official invitation. 

Ms Namgyal noted that the Speaker's participation is seen as a valuable addition to the conference's goal of empowering women in leadership roles. 

Speaker George-Massicote expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “It’s a profound honour to represent the Virgin Islands and the CPA, particularly the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians, on this regional platform dedicated to empowering women leaders.” 

She further stated, “As the Virgin Islands continues to actively engage in regional and international forums that promote good governance, inclusion, and gender equity, I look forward to connecting with like-minded changemakers and contributing to the broader conversation on women’s political and transformational leadership.”
