KINGSTON, Tortola, VI - Information coming into Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) is that a house reportedly caught on fire tonight January 1, 2024, sometime around 8:00 pm at Kingston on Tortola.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described the building as a 'glass house' while adding that the fire was brought under control shortly before 9:00 pm tonight by the local fire and rescue team. 

It remains unclear how the fire started and the extent of the damages sustained, however, up to publication time small flames and smoke were still seen emanating from the area. 

Sources at the scene added that an elderly individual is feared to have been trapped in the fire.

    There is no "Kingston" in the BVI. The area is named "Kingstown". It is the site of the settlement of the liberated Africans who arrived after the abolition of the slave trade.
