ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Management and staff of Horizon Yacht Charters were thrown into a state of mourning recently following the death of one of their employees.

Jevaughn Charles, 27, of Purcell Estate, succumbed in Puerto Rico on January 3, 2012 from an injury he reportedly suffered while attempting back flips on Brewers Bay beach on December 13, 2011. He was a technician at Horizon Yacht Charters in Nanny Cay.

According to co-founder of Horizon Yacht Charters (BVI) Sylvia Driver, Jevaughn was an “absolutely wonderful person to work with. He had a smile for everyone. He will be missed”.

Driver further said that the company has been in contact with the family regarding what assistance they could give, however, nothing has been finalized as yet.

Probably the person at Horizon Yacht Charters that has felt the tragedy the most is Jevaughn’s long-time workmate, supervisor and friend Milton Felix, who related to Virgin Islands News Online that he knew Jevaughn for more than 12 years. “He was a young, ambitious, intelligent person that anyone would have wanted as their son. We were very close for some twelve to fourteen years and worked together at Sunsail in the Moorings before joining this company.”

Felix recalled that on the night of December 13, 2011 he received a call from Jevaughn’s sister, who related to him that Jevaughn had suffered an accident and that he was paralyzed from the waist down. He lamented not being able to see his friend and colleague before he departed for Puerto Rico since he said only family members were allowed to see him at the hospital.

Virgin Islands News Online also spoke to a few other persons who knew Jevaughn at the Nanny Cay Shipyard and they all shared the view that it was a tragic case of a “good man dying young”.

The staff members of Horizon Yacht Charters have also been visiting the family and offering their condolences.

Meanwhile, Jevaughn’s grandmother, Caroline Charles, said relatives have since travelled to Puerto Rico to make arrangements for the body to be returned to the Territory.

The management and staff of Virgin Islands News Online join in expressing condolences to the relatives and friends of Jevaughn Charles in their time of bereavement.

to my former schoolmate mervin and the rest of the charles family, my deepest sympathy. I had to call my son quickly to see this story because when I tell him to stop doing that, he thinks that I am being a "wet blanket" always out to stop his fun. Its only when something bad happens, these young people really listen and realize that its not about stopping their fun, its about safety and prevention, now he's feeling terrible.
