ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, Honourable Marlon A. Penn (R8), along with Opposition Member Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool (R4) received their second doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine today, April 22, 2021, according to a press release from Hon Penn.

2nd dose ‘critical’- Hon Penn

The Leader of the Opposition expressed that, “It is critical to receive the second dose of the vaccine to ensure its effectiveness.”

According to the press release, getting both doses of the vaccine maximises one’s ability to receive full immunity from the vaccine and that receiving only one dose does not afford a person with the full protection and does not give the full effectiveness of the vaccine.

Both Opposition Members received their first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on February 11, 2021.

“Vaccine supplies are becoming limited ’- Hon Vanterpool

Noting the global shortage on vaccines, Honourable Vanterpool encouraged persons to not let the vaccines go to waste and to utilise all the donations received.

“Vaccine supplies are becoming limited therefore for those vaccines that have two doses - it is very important to get both doses for the best protection against the COVID-19 disease,” Honourable Vanterpool said.

Vaccine the best shot @ stopping COVID-19

While expressing his support for vaccination, the Opposition Leader said he recognises that while vaccination is not a silver bullet it is the best shot at stopping the spread of COVID-19.

Honourable Penn iterated that vaccination is important and is only one of many tools to fight COVID and rebound from the pandemic. Adding, vaccination takes us a step closer to being able to live and work with COVID.

Honourable Penn urged residents in the Territory to do their part to protect themselves and others by getting the vaccine and ensure the second dose is taken on schedule.

“Doing so will help save lives and get us closer to the herd immunity needed to stop the spread of COVID-19,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) received his first dose of the AstraZeneca jab on February 24, 2021.

Let the people do what they wish. If they fell than taking it will keep them and their families and business safe. Let them be,. They are adults,,,. If you all don't want to take it, or whatever you all think of it..it's you all rights not to take it,. But it's also people's rights to take it...Quit trying to tell people what to do, and wishing them bad... Why "RIP" you all may die before them...Stop it. ,

This is great news! Thanks for leading by example. People, please get vaccinated. Once the BVI opens up and tourists start coming back if you’re not vaccinated you’re going to be naked in front of the virus. It’s real and is eager to infect people who are not vaccinated or haven’t already had it. The jabs are much safer than COVID and its potential long term effects. Be smart, be safe, get vaccinated and get on with your life.

Time will tell for those who say they got it. Our eyes are wide open. I think it's time to form the anti vaccine club.
