ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- This Christmas Day 2017, Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (AL) and his committee will feed about 500 persons.

Christmas Day has always been a day of family, friends and food; and the Minister is seeking to provide just that for who may not have that post hurricanes Irma and Maria.

It was at the Twelfth Sitting of the Second Session of the Third House of Assembly (HoA) on Wednesday December 20, 2017, that the minister made the announcement.

“On Christmas day, in Road Town, at the parking lot adjacent to the Pub and Scotiabank, my committee and I will be serving lunch there. Between the hours of 11:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M., catering for about 500 persons throughout the Territory; who would need to have a nice Christmas meal, some entertainment and perhaps be around good people,” the Minister said.

Minister Walwyn further stated that that the decision was based on the fact that so many persons in the community are in need. “We know there are a number of persons who have lost their jobs perhaps their places of work have been destroyed, particularly those persons who are in the Tourism Industry; persons may not have a roof; some don’t have a stove; some people have all manner of issues. They are going through something that’s not conducive to the type of living they have grown accustomed to in the holiday season.”

Previous donations of $1000

Minister Walwyn stated that he is saddened by the state of living conditions he observed when visiting different areas of the VI, and that was the impetus to start his aid programme that then engaged in fundraising. “I’m very pleased with the programme. We were able so far to at least touch 80 homes throughout the Virgin Islands, most of them with $1000 gift certificate, to try to help them to put a roof on, buy some windows, do something, make a contribution in some way.

“I’ve been around from all over the VI, visiting homes and talking to people and the devastation is real. People are having a very difficult time.

“This season is the season for giving and caring and I want to encourage all of us to be as helpful as we can to our neighbour. Not just our next door neighbour, but those of us who re in a better position, who can help, let us try to do as much as we can to help those persons who we know are going to have a difficult time during this holiday season.”

Such us life! Talk is cheap and action speaks. Nobody is perfect and he sure has his ways but Walwyn is the man despite all the small talk. This is real action and will make a difference for so many at this time.

No one is quick to put him down. The man has done some good but he has also divided the NDP and the people of the BVI with his dictatorial conduct. However this is a good initiative but he is not the only elected one that is doing for the people.

That’s just how it is around here. Congrats you on Facebook with proper user name and the write how them really feel about you on news sites using fake names. Like Who does that? Only haters.

What I’ve learned about those type of people is the fact they have no choice other to watch people like us grow and grow positively while they’re still miserable but only with themselves (NOT) really others. I do hope all their hating bring them joy in 2018 cause with God and passion in 2018 is up we’re heading.

This is truly from a great man heart. He too could have taken a holiday but he prefers to sit it out with the people with many with their various issues to assist in some way or the other and what Mr Zzzzz does. Anyway he may have a valid reason to take a break due to his age and perhaps health. Myron just do what you can do yo help the Lord will continue to bless and keep you don't mind the naysayers they will always be around. Just eliminate the negative thoughts to positive ones and you will sure see positive results. God bless you and God bless the people of the BVI.

Sir. People just like you and will always be misunderstood and always hated on no matter what we do and how much we try. I’m asking you if you ever read this message, keep God first and keep doing your best. Being political no matter what you do NOT all will be happy, including voters. Nevertheless as long as you’re elected give it your best shot. Season greetings to you and the whole of Governments team nation wide.

@life, oh please, he does not have to feed anyone to get votes. You people need to stop the nonsense already. Everytime someone does something nice it does not mean the person is looking for or expecting something back. I take breakfast to my elderly neighbors every weekend and when I go shopping I always pick them up a loaf of bread and milk free of charge. I am not looking for or expecting anything back.

I don't always agree with this guy's attitude or mindset, but say what you want about him, he's the only leader or aspiring leader who goes out of his way to do things for "people". Gimmick or not, what have the others done?
