Skelton-Cline made these comments during his show, 'Honestly Speaking', on ZBVI 780 AM on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
The relationship between the two seems strained, and both have been trading shots publicly.
The commentator mentioned that Honourable Walwyn had reached out to him a couple of times in recent months. Skelton Cline said when they first met, the Opposition Leader indicated that his team had advised him to engage in discussions with him.
Skelton-Cline shared that Hon Walwyn was looking for his perspective on the current situation in the territory.
"I shared with him, honestly, as I always do in both private and public conversations," Skelton-Cline said.
'He's picking the wrong fight'- Skelton-Cline
Skelton-Cline recounted an interaction from about a month ago, when Hon Walwyn again asked for his support.
"We were in a group when he approached me, and as we walked toward his vehicle, he asked, 'Man, why don't you support me? You know, he's a sweet man, and when he talks, he touches you, he feels you," Skelton-Cline added.
During his talk show, the social commentator noted that the opposition leader requested him to give him a chance, claiming that nobody would treat him as well as the Opposition Leader would.
Skelton-Cline expressed confusion over why Hon Walwyn seems to be seeking conflict with him right now, stating, "He's picking the wrong fight. It’s the wrong fight."
'You will not receive my support'- Hon Walwyn told
He further stated that he told the Opposition Leader, "On this occasion, you will not receive my support. The principle is this: I believe certain positions in this country should be specifically designated for Virgin Islanders, with the premiership being the most important among them."
Hon Walwyn’s legitimacy for the office of Premier has always been a topic of discussion and has been questioned over the years.
Before the 2011 general elections, Hon Walwyn’s eligibility to contest was questioned because, although he was born in the VI, neither his parents nor his grandparents were born in the VI.
These questions were based on varying legal interpretations of the VI Constitutional Order of 2007.
This debate continues today on whether Walwyn, born in the VI, is truly a Virgin Islander eligible to run for public office.
Additionally, Skelton-Cline mentioned that the Opposition Leader claimed their relationship is fractured, as stated on a recently held talk show. According to the Opposition Leader, this claim arose because he did not support Mr Skelton-Cline’s contract renewal in cabinet when he was the Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority.
Skelton-Cline asserted that either the Opposition Leader is lying now or he has been dishonest for the past ten years.
