ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- There is a new Opposition Leader in the Virgin Islands House of Assembly (HoA), as the controversial Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6) has been ousted.

The new Opposition Leader is the newly elected National Democratic Party (NDP) Chairman, Honourable Marlon A. Penn (R8).

According to reports, Hon Penn was sworn in as the new Opposition Leader today, April 21, 2026, by Governor Daniel Pruce.

Hon Walwyn had ousted Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) as Opposition Leader in March 2025 when he created a splinter in the Opposition with the formation of the Alliance, along with Hon Melvin A. Turnbull (R2) and Hon Stacy R. Mather (AL). Hon Mather has since joined the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) government, while Hon Turnbull and Hon Walwyn have returned to the NDP.

At the NDP Convention at Maria's by the Sea on April 18, 2026, Hon Turnbull was elected Vice-Chairman of the NDP ahead of Hon Walwyn.

A taste of his own medicine

Hon Walwyn has now received a taste of his own medicine in being ousted as Opposition Leader.

Hon Penn will now occupy the Leader of the Opposition's seat when the Second Sitting of the Third Session of the Fifth House of Assembly continues today.

More details to follow.

These gides are about self-interest, not the public interest. Instead of focusing on how to improve the standard of living, quality of life, per capita income; strengthening and improving the economy, institutions, education , health, social services, self-empowerment, self/determination, infrastructure, etc., they are arguing about a likle title, “ Opposition Leader.” It is comedy but poor comedy. It is bout power, status, etc. It is a poppy show with poor form. It is a hot seat, demonstrating and reinforcing the crab in a barrel behavior/mentality . The state of BVI is in a bad, regressive state, place, etc. The current state comes at a high opportunity cost. It will take years if not decades to get back on track. Noel Lloyd, Dolph Faulkner, Perin Georges, H.L Stoutt among other national heroes are tossing with disgust in their resting places. Fellow Virgin Islanders, we let this happen. We disengaged and let it happen. Was some crumbs worth the embarrassment, the pain, the shame, etc., No doubt, Mount Olympus is having a hearty laugh. It is up to Virgin Islanders to fix this. It is swim or drown time. Others can go back to their homeland( no dis intended) when things crash and burn, but where will we go? Our forebears sacrificed, laying a foundation for the path forward and what did we do? There is a small window to turn things around. Let’s geh ah dun!

If Hon. Walwyn, with all his cheerleaders and friends had bided his time, him and Hon. Penn would have been the ones running for chairmanship and deputy, as Hon. Skelton and Hon. Mitch would have been over in PVIM. Want all, get none in this case. Only a matter of months and the result of his folly came full circle. Always jumping the gun. Well NDP gave him the red card Saturday night.

The only person that 'won' here is Natalio Wheatley and his team. Now they can come to HOA and have their way because there's no Opposition Leader to hold them accountable. The lazy man does not put any real effort into anything and it will be on full display in the upcoming HOA sessions and campaign trail.

Some of you must be VIP supporters acting like you are or were otherwise. I don't give a shiggidy who it is, Natalio Wheatley and his lazy party should not win. If not NDP, any other P, because they just spent 8 long years in our HOA and the only thing they have to show for their presence there is a whole hell of a lot of racked up frequent flyer miles. This Territory needs representation. We are not getting that from this Government. Sadly, they can do better, but should they have 4 more years of the same do nothing but spend money on God knows what? VIP gets 4 more years and we all better have sneakers because we will be walking as roads will be impassable, except maybe ferry dock Road Town to West End the election fix up. Further, the way they are spending money though not on our needs and priorities, the Treasury will be dry before 2030. But go on, look for an excuse to vote for your friends. They are friendly and nice Virgin Islanders. The only problem is they have no idea how to run this country and are running it into the ground!!

The leader of the party that's in the opposition should just sit back and not be the Opposition Leader. Make it make sense, son of you all does just post out of emotion and not with common sense

What makes him not a leader. Some of them you all calling leaders are oppressors, dictators and allow growth where it does not impact their superior-ship.

Being the opposition leader bears no weight at all. ALL HE CAN DO IS CRITICIZE THE RULING GOVERNMENT. MYRON HAD IT, AND WHAT HAS HE ACHIEVED? WHAT HAS IT BENEFITTED HIM? AIN'T LIKE HE CAN GET ANYTHING DONE IF THE PREMIER DECIDES NOT TO GIVE HIM ANY FUNDS. IN CLOSING, being an opposition leader does not guarantee you premiership if elected.

I wonder what happened between those three Alliances though? Mather ran as fast as he could, and the other two competed for the same position, claiming to be on the same team? Somethings must have gone way south?

I am glad that marlin penn is the opposition leader now so we can see for ourselves that the man can't walk in Myron walwyn shoe, he does not have that intelligence, and also the agreement he made with VIP and natalio and the indigenous entitlement elites will compromise his ability to function on the interest of the people, even Ronnie heart is at joy because of that pack with the family entitlement club that he is a part of along with join cline, they plan to share the loot that taking from the tax payers, Myron will not be on that constitutional discussion in UK to look out for the BVI people, the natalio VIP clique is going there to wrestle power from the governor and devolve it to themselves, once they get more power and money the BVI people can go take a leak.
