Hon Walwyn again attacks online media sites!
He was speaking during the Eighth Sitting of the Third Session of the Second House of Assembly yesterday July 23, 2014.
The Minister also made disparaging remarks about the PAC and its members and the reports it released on the cruise pier project.
“You must come to the process with clean hands, because you are in a position of such esteem that you have been considered as the queen of all committees,” Hon Walwyn said, referring to the PAC’s Opposition members.
“With much authority comes much responsibility and that responsibility must be exercised in a fair, objective, and unbiased way and you must be credible when you speak,” he said.
“I cannot say that the [Opposition members of the PAC] came to the process with clean hands,” said Hon Walwyn.
“The politicians know how to play the politics…they use the same tactics Madam Speaker that the online news use now. They give you a nice fanciful headline to get the emotions working and if you do not go down into the body of the story and get it for yourself and use your good common sense, you will depart from that story with all sorts of thoughts in your mind, totally different from the story itself,” he said.
“Some of them even write some very misleading headlines but put the truth in the body of the [story] because they believe that people don’t read,” he said.
“We use these things on the people sometimes, even in the politics. Because the truth is how many persons would get up and read this?” he asked, indicating the thick PAC final report.
The Minister called the earlier released interim report of the PAC on the cruise pier project flimsy and lacking in substance. “It was shameful actually and I know the members on the Opposition side who were primarily the authors of it…I know them very well,” he said in a mocking tone.
“They are very intelligent persons so I don’t understand what might have possibly gone wrong with producing a one and a half page report,” he said.
He accused the Opposition of becoming ‘sweet’ on power so much so that they would seek to get it back at any cost. “Madam Speaker, you know that power like it sweet, that power like it sweet some of them so they will do anything and everything at the expense of the people, at the expense of everything just to get their hands on that power,” said Minister Walwyn.

I am disappointed that a grownup in such a position is behaving like gossipy and vendetta
seeking teenage girls. Nothing to gain, everything to lose and so much wasted time. Everything eventually comes out in the wash so report like an adult and get on with life...shucks!!!
