Hon Walwyn accused of malicious talk; Hon Fahie lashes back
During his speech at the NDP rally, Hon Walwyn said he found it amazing that people with the most indiscretion are the ones who attack other people. "I can say I’ve been honest in all my dealings as a politician and as a businessman.... I can say with confidence that no member of the NDP has been sought after in relations to money laundering," said Hon Walwyn.
However, the former Education Minister, Hon Fahie, denounced Hon Walwyn’s comments and wrote them off as cheap attempts to bash the Opposition on the political stage.
“I really don’t know who the member is referring to when I heard some of the things that he said because based on what I know everyone else would know that the member is taking the opportunity to use the political forum to get involved in malicious talk hoping to destroy me as a person and a candidate so that his candidate in the First District could walk right in and take the victory,” he said.
Former People's Patriotic Alliance (PPA) member Shaina M. Smith is the NDP candidate in the First District.
Political bullying won’t work
Honourable Fahie said that over the past three and a half years, Hon Walwyn and the NDP have been involved in political bullying. “And I don’t know when he would get the picture that this won’t work. Elections should not be a rally ruse to just bash the Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party and bash me as one of the members of the Opposition for the job we did. [They] want to make it seem that who we are and what we are doing was not credible but that will not work,” he said.
“They continue to brag about progress but yet the people are not part of the progress. More persons in this country cannot make ends meet and are finding it difficult to pay their bills. The economy is not as buoyant as they continue to say,” he said.
Hon Fahie added that the Government has ignored the cries of the average person and is hoping to blindfold the people in this hurriedly called election.
Tell us why the Government dissolved the HoA
“He [Hon Walwyn] would need to tell us why the Government would have closed off the House of Assembly to go into an election leaving nineteen million dollars of unpaid invoices which is all the way up to seventy five million dollars; he would need to tell us how his administration could close off the House of Assembly and call for early elections when over one hundred million dollars of over expenditure for the last three years remain unaccounted for; he would have to tell us how his administration closed off the House of Assembly and still has not said where they are going to get the money from to clear the over twenty million dollars of committed expenses incurred with the cruise pier project, which is a needed project but not properly financed,” he said.
He said too that the Peebles Hospital still needs about $20 million connected to the construction phase.
“There is a lot of things that he would have to tell the people that this Government would have tried to hide with a quick election. Really and truly the Minister is trying to frighten the persons in the VIP who are the Opposition members,” said Hon Fahie.
“He would learn that anytime anyone has to go back into your past, it simply means that he is concerned about the bright future that God has for me and for the Opposition. But it also means that he is concerned about his future. He needs to man up and stop trying to frighten big man with lil boy talks,” Hon Fahie said.
