Hon Vanterpool points out hypocrisy in UK being angry with Putin

-said just like Putin, the UK believes it knows what is better for the VI than the VI itself
Fourth District Representative Hon Mark H. Vanterpool, speaking at the continuation of the Ninth Sitting of the Fourth Session of the Fourth House of Assembly, on December 20, 2022, said the UK is angry at Putin for invading the Ukraine, but is committing a similar act to the Virgin Islands in principle. DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- The United Kingdom (UK) has been called out for its hypocrisy in condemning the actions of Russia and its President Vladimir V. Putin regarding the Ukraine invasion while threatening to recolonise the Virgin Islands (VI) by suspending the local constitution and impose direct rule.

‘It’s the same principle’- Hon Vanterpool

Hon Vanterpool also said the VI should not even have to beg the UK to grant it self-determination.
“But Mr Speaker, you know it is the same principle, that Putin believes he knows better for the Ukrainians than the Ukrainians know for themselves?

“The United Kingdom believe they know better for us than we know for ourselves. It’s the same principle,” Hon Vanterpool argued.

He urged the VI people to look out for themselves and believe in themselves, as the territory has done well on its own.

Governor Rankin’s hypocrisy exposed

Hon Vanterpool’s statements also brought out the hypocrisy in Governor John J. Rankin, CMG, who had said his heart goes out to the people of the Ukraine in his Christmas message on December 12, 2022.

“Events at home here in the Virgin Islands have affected us all and we, like every other country, have felt the impacts of what is happening in the wider world, not least the shock of the atrocities we are witnessing from the Russian invasion of Ukraine, together with the economic fallout which is impacting each and every one of us.

“While my responsibility as Governor are for the people of the BVI, my prayers are also with the people of Ukraine at this time of their suffering,” Governor Rankin had stated.

Hon Vanterpool had also labeled the unelected governor as the ‘Pharoah of the Virgin Islands’.

‘Let my people go’

Turning to Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), Hon Vanterpool told him to get some “faith in his backbone” and ask the “Pharoah” to let his people go.

Quoting assassinated freedom fighter Martin Luther King Jr, Hon Vanterpool said the time is always right to do what is right and that “darkness cannot drive out injustice” and “injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere.”

According to Hon Vanterpool, Barbados Prime Minister Mia A. Mottley said it is time to pivot, “so let us pivot in the right direction, Mr Speaker, and do what is right. We are not any worse than anyone else.

“I want to ask it of the United Kingdom, I want to ask it of the Governor. I want him to tell the people in the United Kingdom. I want him to tell the Minister for Overseas Territories and I want the Minister of Overseas Territories to tell the Foreign Minister and I want the Foreign Minister to tell the Premier [Prime Minister], let my people go.”

Mark is correct. As for you make sure you keep a full tab on all events and who was behind all of this and why and why now. Also recapp the following because there is more......
      - The UK is listed as one of the most corrupt country that hides their corruption yet they still remain in charge of their own affairs. They cannot suspend their constitution because they have none.
      - A non transparent COI by the Governor that hides his wrong and inefficiencies but exposes who they wanted to expose for unethical reasons which will soon be known.
      - A public service that has fnine. And failed in upgrading for 35 years and it is solely under the Governor but he gets exempted from the failure or from being known as the failure.
      - Questionable actions of pass governors and Commissioner of Police swept under the rug.
      - Man died and was missing but only the Governor knew where he was to find him. The Governor was never questioned.
      - UK resisted doing a COI in the heat of Covid in the UK because it was not the best thing to do at the time since the UK needed to save lives and the economy in the UK but did one on the BVI.
      - Had public officers who they want arrested for breach of trust but protecting others who are assisting in their plots.
      - In other Overseas territories where it was found wrong doing by governors they were sent back to the UK and are roaming free without any charges or arrest and a new Governor sent to replace them.
      - One black Governor sent to the Caribbean in the last 50 years and it was in 2021 in Bermuda. How do you explain this in this day and age other than racism.

Will stop there for now but let's keep track of everything. The point is no one man should have the power to look into everyone and go at who they want ethically or not and the system does not allow it to be reciprocal. This is where the real chaos comes. It is wrong and you cannot do wrong claiming you are trying to get right. At least public officers can be suspended or fired and elected officials can be voted out but the system totally exempts governors and the UK from punishment for unethical and questionable actions. This is why it is time for independence with solid systems in place to govern us because we will never do anything good or right in their sight unless they are doing it or they are governing. The BVI is now worse than any other countries but that is what they and people like you want us to believe.

Where is the UK listed as the most corrupt country? Source please
        - A non transparent COI by the Governor - they YouTube'd all the interviews and then realised their report - seems pretty open
        - The governor is not responsible for the public service - our government is - that is who has failed us
        - Questionable actions of pass governors and Commissioner of Police swept under the rug - such as ?
        - Man died and was missing but only the Governor knew where he was to find him. The Governor was never questioned - I am unaware of this, please tell more.
        - UK resisted doing a COI in the heat of Covid in the UK because it was not the best thing to do at the time since the UK needed to save lives and the economy in the UK but did one on the BVI - Because we needed one as we were falling apart as a territory-
        - Had public officers who they want arrested for breach of trust but protecting others who are assisting in their plots, sometimes you have to let a few people go to get the evidence for the big fish to fall, surely you have watched some TV in ur life.
        - In other Overseas territories where it was found wrong doing by governors they were sent back to the UK and are roaming free without any charges or arrest and a new Governor sent to replace them, again who, what sources? Not in the BVI.
        - One black Governor sent to the Caribbean in the last 50 years and it was in 2021 in Bermuda. How do you explain this in this day and age other than racism.... UK population is only 4% black ... and 81% white .... go figure why, not racism, just ratios.

Hon. Mark Vanterpool, Reo. D4. I see where your mindset is at. You have scored some points on this topic issue., but the main reason why you are saying most of what you have said, is not because you care that much for the welbeing og the people of the BVI, but rather latelt you have heavuly invested in business expansion, that put you in deeper financial debt. To mame a long story short, your main interest money making. You see the Uk as a threat against your main goal.

The BVI can complete and implement every recommendation from that questionable COI process and it still will never be enough to satisfy the UK. Just wait and see. The reality is the UK wants to rule all OTs directly so they can give their friends jobs as the economy in the UK is real bad. If we think we had it bad under elected officials then wait until you are ruled directly by Brits. BVI be careful what you are asking for because you will regret it.

I have been saying this all along. You cannot have such dictatorship existing in the ruling of any country. Let the laws and policies of the land speak and not high handed moves that are not justifiable and are being done without a democratic process.

The UK always tell their overseas territories that we are in a modern partnership. Well if this behavior by them towards us all as well as other high handed behavior by them is modern and are the actions of a partner then we are all in some serious trouble and raises serious concerns as it is not the BVI alone. Let us see if the UK listens to the UN. They are wrong in their approach.

Hon. Mark is on target. We need to wake up in the BVI and in all the Caribbean overseas territories. We are under a modern day slavery regime and those who have us under this in the UK do not see it this way because they are accustom of enslaving persons and call it their version of good governance. We all will see if they have any respect for the UN now because they have none for us.
  • My Take (28/12/2022, 15:09) Like (26) Dislike (6) Reply
Solid move by the UN as it is the same thing Mark is saying. We are always quick to pull down each other and look into each other and want to see each other go to jail whether with merit or not. However we are always unwilling to challenge the Governor and the UK and their missteps and conduct. The former Speaker of the House challenged in court if the lawyers used by the COI violated the Legal Act by not registering in the BVI to practice law. If so that would have been a criminal offense. Most of us ridiculed him out of hatred of him rather than sticking to the issue of if their actions were right or wrong. Up to this day we do not know if they were right or wrong as the court never got to rule on the matter. If this was a local or Caribbean lawyer or person that came into the same question then I am sure we would have nailed them to the cross with help from the same UK. We are fighting the wrong fight all the time and allowing these people to divide us so we do not have time to see who really is doing wrong. The systems that addresses wrong and right should be for all and exclude none not even the Governor and the UK.

This is the same slave mentality that have us where we are now. Pure folly. People like you think that only elected officials are bad or corrupt and that is applauding. Your statement makes it clear what the Governor and UK does when one does not agree with them. This is the dictatorship we must get out of from ruling us as they are above the law only because they are in charge of the law and administer the law and this is WRONG! They continuously abuse their power.

Hon. Mark Vanterpool, Rep. D4. I love you with the Love of God our Creator, but you need to know this fact.
It is far easier to so corruption (false) in other people that to see the same within self. There are things that we are able to charge, others we can not. They will happen.

In the days of slavery the slaves were led to believe that they cannot survive if they run away from under the leadership of the slave masters. Does this sound familiar? Well it should because the same slave masters but with modern strategy have people in the BVI and other overseas territories some 400 years later saying that if they are not ruling us then then we will be domed and our security and economy will not be secure and we will fail. People stop buying their brain washing philosophy. It is the same strategy as 400 years ago but in a modern form where they are selling it in a way that is getting some of our support but this is a mistake. In terms of independence t is not a matter of ir but when. They will always make us feel as if we can never govern ourselves in a transparent manner.

Do you really think the UK wants control of the BVI, the territory is a financial burden and the UK would be pleased to see the back of it. However, the UK Government has an obligation to the people of the BVI and they cannot walk away whilst the territory is being governed by drug running corrupt & self enriching politicians.

It seem as if it is a UK site in BVI.

What is this guy smokong. How can you ewuate the invasion and demolition of a sovereign country with a comission of inquiry into a corrupt government. You want independence. It is simple. Table a bill in the house calling for a referendum. Interestingly the government is willing to have a referendum on same sex marriage and not independence. Talk is cheap. Act and table the bill if you feel so strongly.
