Hon Turnbull ‘troubled’ by military strikes on VZ & capture of its president
According to the legislator and clergyman, the international reports of military strikes in Caracas, Venezuela, including claims surrounding the detention of President Nicolás Maduro, “are of great concern to me”.
‘I am troubled’
In a Facebook post on January 4, 2026, Hon Turnbull said while facts are still unfolding, these developments are serious and should demand our close attention.
“As a Second District Representative in the Virgin Islands, I am troubled by what this could mean for democracy, peace, and stability—not only for Venezuela, but for the wider Caribbean, Latin America, and the global community. What happens in one part of our region inevitably affects us all.”
Stating that he was mourning any lives that may have been lost and stand in solidarity with families who are grieving or living in fear and uncertainty, Hon Turnbull said no one should be forced to endure the consequences of violence and political instability.
“My prayers are with those who are displaced, suffering, or anxious about what tomorrow may bring.”
At least 40 people, including civilians and members of Venezuela’s security forces, were killed during the sweeping US military action that culminated in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, according to a senior Venezuelan official cited by The New York Times.
The official said the death toll was based on early casualty assessments and spoke on condition of anonymity.
US President Donald J. Trump said no US soldiers were killed, although some were injured.
‘I encourage restraint, respect for international law’
According to Hon Turnbull: “I encourage restraint, respect for international law, and a renewed commitment to dialogue and diplomacy. Violence only deepens suffering and division. Peace—however difficult—remains the only path that preserves life, dignity, and democratic values.
At this critical moment, I pray for calm to prevail, for wisdom among leaders, and for the restoration of peace. Our true strength lies not in force, but in unity.”
“We are stronger together—when we stand for peace, defend democracy, protect human life, and choose cooperation over conflict for the sake of our region and our world.”
Premier Wheatley 'reserves' comment
Meanwhile, Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) told our News Centre he would “reserve” his comment “at the moment”.
Our News Centre also sought a comment from Governor Daniel Pruce; however, the Governor’s Office directed us to statements by United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister Kier R. Starmer and Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.
Both Starmer and Cooper said the UK had not recognised Mr Maduro as the legitimate President of Venezuela.

Heavy crude, Ocean front properties for sale, Silver reserves, gold reserves, minerals, rear earths etc etc.... if your country has natural resources, you must give it over to the last standing empires in order to just live without war!
So VZ is now run by the Trump family clan all for profit!
Help to make the B.V.I great again???
Look how happy the people of Venezuela are looking. All those Caribbean leaders who was aligned with Maduro must be wondering if they are next. Antigua and Dominica Prime Ministers are now talking differently now. CARICOM leaders knows that Maduro was not legitimate leader but they still aligned with him because they were getting oil cheap. Trump have all of them Caribbean Prime Ministers backup in corner that they are afraid to speak because they don’t want Trump to target them and refuse to give them visa. What if Trump were to stop the ships from coming to the Caribbean? What will we do with the tourism industry? Please be smart with your comments.
yall lucky we was under uk cuz who woulda stop usa for coming for andrew when them rdy? WEST BANK? POLICE? SOB? 88 GANG? MONEY BOYZ?? LOOOL
uk mean do go ahead but don't mess with the people or bomb the country straight stealth op not even the elite family, mika barry or the local gangs didt even knew
While it is true that Maduro is in fact a dictator, Trump thinks that he is the dictator of all dictators of this world, especially when money is involved in the mix.
Russia has moved military assets within reach of the U.S. mainland, while Hezbollah, ISIS, and other extremist groups maintain logistics routes into the United States and the wider region. The security risks to the US are real.
Trinidad and Tobago and other islands are now facing unprecedented levels of violence and homicide, driven in part by spillover from Venezuelan criminal networks. Removing a narco-state from the region would materially advance the goal of a true zone of peace, and reports suggest some regional leaders may yet be implicated in cases linked to the Maduro regime.
Trump’s style is crude, but many Venezuelans appear broadly supportive of recent events. Several senior officials in the Maduro government face international warrants and bounties, a reality that demands caution and restraint from those who remain.
Oil is a prize but the real objective is pushing out Chinese Russian and Iranian influence, disrupting terrorist logistics, and breaking major illicit trafficking routes.
Venezuelan crude is heavy, infrastructure is badly degraded, and investor confidence is weak. Major firms have already absorbed losses and shifted capital to more stable jurisdictions. Any return to Venezuela would require exceptionally high risk premiums.

2. Name one thing that the BVI have that the US wants? They already have Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands ask territories for bases and to defend this hemisphere.
Let's worried about getting our infrastructure improved I'm not on hypothetical and idiotic thinking.
Why are you even commenting on that situation when you don’t understand the strategic and political issues at play. House slave mentality SMH
