The Junior Minister for Financial Services, Economic Development and Digital Transformation, Hon Lorna G. Smith, OBE (AL), led the delegation to Latin America for the BVI Latin America Roadshow. The delegation included Elise Donovan, Chief Executive Officer of BVI Finance, and Kenneth B. Baker, Managing Director & CEO of the BVI Financial Services Commission.

BVI Latin America Roadshow kicked off

The BVI Latin America Roadshow officially kicked off on October 27, 2025, in São Paulo, Brazil, and continued through October 29, 2025, in Uruguay.

Speaking to Virgin Islands News online on October 29, 2025, Hon Smith noted that the roadshow has been well-received.

"It’s going extremely well. There is interest and excitement about how we can work more closely with and in a region, which already accounts for roughly one-fifth of all beneficial owners registered in the BVI. The turnout has been strong at our events, and the BVI will be following up with the new business opportunities which have presented themselves.’’

This regional initiative aims to strengthen relationships and engage with clients, business leaders, and financial professionals across Latin America. 

Critical for VI Key Stakeholder & Business representatives 

Hon Smith stated, "This dynamic region represents roughly one-fifth of beneficial owners registered in the BVI, and economic growth there is driving cross-border investment, which, of course, the BVI has deep experience in supporting, so it is critical that we are here meeting key stakeholders and business representatives."

BVI Finance has hosted events in Brazil and Uruguay, and the Virgin Island team will be hosted in Argentina, before the delegation returns to the VI by the end of the week.

According to a Facebook post, the team is showcasing the Virgin Islands' reputation as a trusted and innovative international financial centre that supports global investment, corporate growth, and private wealth management.
