ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - A modernised medical facility in Virgin Gorda is still in the pipeline for the current Government, and according to the Health Minister Hon. Ronnie Skelton, it is top on his bucket list with the possibility of construction to begin as early as next year.

The Minister for Health and Social Development was responding to a caller on NDP radio programme on May 21, 2012, who wanted to know whether or not Virgin Gorda residents will ever have their own hospital.

Against this backdrop, Hon. Skelton stated that he held a meeting with a project team ‘last week to pour over some proposals that we got from some people”.

“We are hoping that very shortly, we will be able to come to the Virgin Gorda community with a possible proposal that we think that can work…so we can go back to the drawing board and get something [plans] finalised by the end of the year. And hopefully to start construction as early as next year,” he told listeners.

When Premier Dr. D. Orlando Smith had delivered the Budget Address on January 19, 2012, he had affirmed his commitment in responding to the growing health care needs of the residents of Virgin Gorda and surrounding communities by developing a modern and efficient medical facility with improved emergency services and observational beds.

“The people of Virgin Gorda need and expect it and my Government intends to provide it,” Hon. Smith had disclosed.

At the moment, the Iris O'Neal Clinic serves the people of VG.

Start and Finish you say? Your previous government had approved funding to finish the hospital and they did nothing but stupidness with the money...Four years they had to finish what NDP started and did Nothing and you have the nerves to talk and NDP just got in 6 months. They already did more to the hospital in 6 months than what VIP did in 4 years. Foolishness is what the past government fed you all and you bought it.

Jack: Who ranting and raving about last government? I stating the facts. They bought the property and said they were going to build the hopsital. They did NOTHING!! now all you expect the new government to build one in VG in 6 months? The Minister says he will build a hospital in VG...let's waite and see but all you so quick to doubt. All you swallowed what the last government told you but how quickly you doubt and bad mouth this new government. If you all were so interested in what is happening with the hospital in Tortola, you would read and see the progress that has been made in the past months..but no, it's better for you all to just bad mouth and talk without proofs...all you full of nonsense..
