ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- As the Government’s three week-ban on three-wheel or less vehicles, which includes motorbikes and scooters, from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am, remains in effect until June 25, 2020, Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) has been using the opportunity to meet with affected motor scooter and bike owners.

“I was grateful to have the opportunity to be able to sit with a cross-section of the motorcycling/scooter community today hosted by 284 REVERZ,” Hon Rymer wrote on his Facebook page on Saturday, June 6, 2020.

The Minister said it was “important for me to hear them out and be able to walk away with a better understanding as to how we can work together towards a positive outcome.”

The restriction on the motor scooters, motorbikes and 3-wheel vehicles has been getting mixed reactions and persons have called on Government to instead enforce the rules regarding motor scooters already in place.

“We are hoping to use this opportunity as a catalyst for change, as we continue to improve movement on our roadways as I am committed to working with everyone involved, especially our young people,” Hon Rymer stated.

Virgin Islands News Online reached out to the Minister for details arising out of the meeting but was unsuccessful up to the time of publication.

Legalise yourself

It was the host of Honestly Speaking, Mr Claude O. Skelton Cline, who on his show on ZBVI 780 AM on June 4, 2020, called on the Minister to hold “a big meeting over the next 13 days and ask all the bikers to show up and tell them to bring their bikes and have the Department of Motor Vehicles right down there in the festival grounds.”

He pointed out that during that time bikers should be given the opportunity to meet with insurance companies to insure their vehicles, and with DMV to license them.

“If you want to ride your bike, if you want the curfew lifted off from you, legalise yourself!” Mr Skelton-Cline had urged.

The group that is represented in the pics is not the one that is reeking havoc in our society. We need a game plan to deal with the inconsiderate young boys that ride recklessly and pollute the air with extremely annoying and unnecessary noise. That's the group that you need to reason with. Anything short of that is pointless Mr. Minister.

It would be interesting to see how this unfolds. The minister made attempts to have meetings before not sure what was the outcome but was told many did not attend at that time. Now that they are affected let's see if they will attend. He is here trying again let's do this thing right.

The hammer is about to hit the nail on the head you young people better listen take heed because you may have to buy a car instead. Try your best and not for the moment only but for the future. Time to get sober up together we can make the necessary changes that will bring about better for the territory and all of us as people.

It's one thing to have freedom and its another to have it taken away from you.
It's one thing to be able to have life that was given to us by the creator and its another thing play careless and take it away by our own recklessness. So I urge you to be wise and live life to the fullest by being safe and implementing safe practices. Those of you who are doing your best to be safe and are following regulations keep doing it that to can help others to do the right thing. I tip my hat off to you.

Problem isn’t the police it’s the parents of ALL the scooter/bikes/arc riders breaking the law and riding without license and helmet...everything starts at home! When the police use to chase bikers they get fired for “assaulting” the young man that died later on that year. And ATVS are illegal for use on the public road

It goes both ways. Let the police learn to properly do their jobs than working off of emotion and abusing their power.

Let’s get the 600cc in and highly regulate it, fines license suspensions and have tickets for loud mufflers like the USA. Regulate and do it quickly

Well so much for your meeting . CANE GARDEN BAY was a ractrack today with the illegal bikes racing by the cemetary and then back to Quitos. No police at all ...tried calling ... but that is to be expected with the COP leadership Luckily no pedestrians were killed or injured as there were a lot of people at the beach trying to enjoy.

Time to start going to a green BVI. Import/sell electric bikes only. Ban the noisy gas motorbikes forever.

And you’re clearly not a biker let me know when electric bikes could handle these hills, when the brakes give out you dead! You need compression! even scooters are terrible for these hills need bigger engines for safety purposes, do your research

It say: 3 wheels or less. What about the stupid ATVs?
If a rider can proof that he is working until 5:00pm he should be allowed to get home until 6:00pm
I would be glad if that curfew for dem bikes will go for long do de ppl can sleep
