Hon Malone should be re-elected due to 'work ethic'- Skelton-Cline

Skelton-Cline made the statement on April 11, 2023, during his Honestly Speaking talk show aired on ZBVI 780 AM.
“All of the Virgin Islands Party At Large candidates are at stake… Carvin, who is the hardest worker, he is the hardest worker of them all, if anybody should get elected from the Virgin Islands Party just on the work ethic alone, it should be Carvin,” he added.
Before being relegated to back-bencher in the Government of National Unity and then crossing the floor to hold the Unity Government accountable, Hon Malone led VI's health strategy as Minister for Health and Social Development at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in the territory.
Skelton-Cline also said Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports Honourable Sharie B. de Castro (AL), who was the highest At Large vote-getter in the 2019 election, has a bright future as a politician, even if she is not re-elected.
Hon de Castro facing a tough ticket - Skelton-Cline
According to the talk show host, Hon de Castro is facing a tough ticket, given the current political season in the Virgin Islands.
Many political pundits believe Hon de Castro has done a wonderful job as Education Minister during her short time in the role and the electorate may want her to continue.
Meanwhile, Skelton-Cline said for the National Democratic Party (NDP), there are two strong candidates- former First Lady Lorna G. Smith and former Deputy Premier Dr Kedrick D. Pickering- and for Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) he said the At Large candidates remain strong.
“In order to win At Large, each At Large member needs at least an average of 400 votes coming out of each district, there are 9 districts,” Skelton-Cline added.
He said on the momentum of the VIP in 2019, Hon Carvin Malone came in fourth with 3936 total votes.
In 2019, the other At Large winners included Hons Sharie B. de Castro with 4778 votes, Shereen D. Flax-Charles with 4033 votes and Neville A. Smith with 4694 total votes.
