ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- After being Chairperson for the last 12 years, Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines sees it fit for someone else to take over the Prince and Princess (P&P) Show committee as chairperson and move the pageant in a new direction with new ideas that will benefit all.

In an exclusive interview on July 15, 2012, at the conclusion of the 2012 P&P Show, the 6th District representative informed this news site that she is hopeful of someone in the Virgin Islands stepping up to her invitation.

“Not that I hate working with the kids, I love working with the kids but for 12 years, but I think it’s time for someone else to take over.”

She said that it is customary for her to send out this invitation in her quest of seeking a brave soul out of the community who she thinks is capable. She added that a common response to her invitation she often hears is “I can’t run the show like you do.”

In a rebuttal Ms. Maduro-Caines exclaimed, “then they should do it their way.”

She added, “I would love to give someone else a chance and see the many twists and ideas that can go into the pageant.”

She invites interested persons, to approach the committee, or herself personally and inform her that they are willing and capable to do such a task.

“I’ll be happy if they need help. I can work with them and show them the ropes a bit.”

This year's Prince and Princess show was dubbed the best, with eight pairs participating and Jayque Hopkins and CeRayiah Authurton crowned the 2012 Prince and Princess. This year, the Futuristic Wear was also replaced by Cartoon Character.

Alvera is right. every year you have people dissing her and her committee but not one of them willing to come forward and take it over, set of haters. She has run this show FLAWLESS over the past few years. It's a guranteed sell out and a good show every year. Alvera don't mind the noise, continue to move this forward.

I agree with you Flanks...She puts herself out of the way every year and I rearly hear anyone thanking her but she still continues to work with these youths year after year. Well, today I applaud you Alvera for your efforts. I remember your first show when everyone got bikes..you sure have brought this show a long way..just keep on keeping on and work with our youths as long as you feel you need to.

Volunteerism is a thankless job. If Chairman of the P&P committee were a paying situation the lady might have found herself out of a job years ago. She's doing a great job, for no pay and it isn't broke, so why fix it. No one wants her job. People might criticize and air their opinions, good or bad, but they are NOT going to step up to do it if there's no pay check attached. Lots of chat, but no substance. People just talk but if they had to put in the time and effort for the type of outcome this show has, there would probably be no show. I'm afraid Ms. Maduro-Caines has this job for life and she's stuck with the baton.
