NASSAU, The Bahamas- Honourable Lorna G. Smith OBE (AL), Minister with responsibility for Financial Services, represented the Virgin Islands (VI) at the 7th Annual Bahamas Research Conference on Financial Crime hosted by The Central Bank of The Bahamas.

The event, which ran from January 21–23, 2026, at the Margaritaville Beach Resort in Nassau, was aimed at enhancing regional collaboration and technical exchange and is a leading forum for empirical research and policy dialogue on anti-money laundering (AML) and financial crime.

Hon Smith continues to strengthen VI partnerships

Premier of the Virgin Islands Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) stated that, "Honourable Smith continues to strengthen partnerships and advance policies that protect the integrity of our jurisdiction and serve the people of the Virgin Islands. I am always proud of the work she’s doing on our behalf."

Honourable Smith has a long history at the helm of financial services in the VI. She began her career in the public service in 1973.

The Office of the Premier, in a Facebook post, said Hon Smith continues to do the people's work, which is what Premier Wheatley expects from his "very capable team of ministers".
