Hon Julian Fraser RA turns 75

The seasoned legislator, born on July 5, 1950, commemorated his 75th birthday with a reflective Facebook post, stating, “When you’ve done 50 in the 20th century and 25 in the 21st, it adds up to this.”
Hon Fraser said that he has been “thanking God to see this day”, adding, “Today I’m the richest man alive.”
26 years of political service to the VI
Hon Fraser has given 26 years of political service to the Virgin Islands (VI) through his active involvement in politics.
He was first elected in 1999 as a member of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) representing the Third District. Since that time, he has served as Deputy Chief Minister, Minister for Communications and Works, and now Deputy Premier and Minister for Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change.
He also served as Opposition Leader for two brief stints, in 2015 and 2022.
Hon Fraser was Chairman of the VIP from 2014 to 2015. Upon losing Chairmanship of the party to former Premier Andrew A. Fahie, Hon Fraser formed his own party, Progressives United (PU).
He went on to contest the 2019 and 2023 general elections on the PU ticket, which was the only seat won by the party.
Following the 2023 election, Hon Fraser served as a member of the Opposition until crossing the floor to join the VIP led government.
It remains uncertain whether Hon Fraser will seek re-election in the 2027 general elections. Additionally, if he does decide to run, it is not yet clear whether he will do so as a candidate under his party, the Progressives United.
Efforts to get a comment from Hon Fraser on his birthday were unsuccessful.
The management and staff of Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) extend birthday greetings to Hon Fraser on his 75th birthday.
