ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Junior Minister for Tourism and Culture, Hon Luce D. Hodge-Smith (R4), has called on members of the public to take an interest and pay attention to what is happening in the Virgin Islands (VI), particularly in the House of Assembly (HoA).

She made these remarks during the Continuation of the Second Sitting of the Third Session of the Fifth House of Assembly on Tuesday, February 3, 2025.

Hodge-Smith congratulated the HoA and Speaker Corine N. George-Massicote on the passing of the House of Assembly Management Act, 2025.

“We continue to make history and strides, Madam Speaker, and this is a great achievement for not just this House of Assembly, yourself, but for the Territory in a whole.”

VIslanders should ‘listen to’ HoA

Hon Hodge-Smith admitted to being disappointed by some of the comments on Facebook regarding the bill, but said she “won’t get into them” and instead encouraged people to show interest.

“I just want our people to pay attention to what’s happening in their territory, get involved. If you don’t know what’s going on, ask questions.”

She encouraged them to tune in and listen to the House when it’s in session.

“There, a lot of information is being shared, and it’s not just to say we’re in the House of Assembly for these long hours, but it’s for the betterment, growth and development of our territory.”

The House resumes its sitting on Thursday, February 5, 2026, and will be in Committee on the Virgin Islands Electricity and Water Corporation Bill, 2026.

You do not have anything to contribute. You do not add anything to the debate.

... But don't be too inquisitive... don't ask too many questions, especially those they don't like and put them in a hard spot.... and under no circumstances criticise them or ask them what the hell they are doing to improve the lives of residents..... so their job basically....

Are you sure that you want the public to listen to your weak ineffective contributions in the HOA?

You are completely out of touch with the people. Super nice lady but you have no call in the lion's den. This is your contribution? We have to come to you to find out what is going on? Funny when you wanted my vote you came to me and made it clear why I should vote for you. But now it is beneath you all to come to the public with clear words on what is going on in HOA? You all get in there and forget where you come from until it is election time again.
