Hon Fraser League games cancelled this weekend

DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- Hurricane Jerry may not be a fan of basketball as it has forced the cancellation of all games in the Honourable Julian Fraser Save the Seed National Basketball League at the Save the Seed Energy Center in Duff’s Bottom, Tortola, this weekend.

This was confirmed by the League Committee via a bulletin last evening, September 19, 2019.

“All team owners, coaches, captains, players and fans are hereby notified that due to the impending Hurricane Jerry, all games this weekend Friday, September 20, 2019  to Sunday September 22, 2019 in the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed National Basketball League have been cancelled.”

The bulletin advised that the League will resume on Friday September 27, 2019 with games scheduled for that day and that teams will be advised of makeup games.

“The League Committee regrets any inconvenience caused and takes this opportunity to thank everyone for their support of the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball 2019 Season.”

All public offices and schools are also closed today.

Hurricane Jerry could bring heavy rainfall- DDM

Meanwhile, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) has said Hurricane Jerry could bring heavy rainfall to the Virgin Islands this weekend.

It said at 8:00 AM AST (1200 UTC), today, September 20, 2019, the centre of Hurricane Jerry was located near latitude 18.5 North, longitude 59.6 West.

“Jerry is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h). A west-northwest to northwest motion at a decreasing forward speed is expected over the next few days.”

According to the DDM, on the forecast track, the center of Jerry will move north of the [British] Virgin Islands on Saturday.

“Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 100 mph (155 km/h) with higher gusts. A gradual weakening trend is forecast to continue today, but Jerry is expected to remain a hurricane during the next few days.”

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the centre and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles, according to DDM.
