ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- In a shocking announcement, Leader of the Opposition and Third District Representative Hon Julian Fraser RA has claimed on his Facebook wall that he was "kicked off" the programme for the Opening of Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival this evening, July 25, 2016 by controversial Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn.

With the heading, "FRASER KICKED OFF FESTIVAL PROGRAM BY WALWYN", Hon Fraser said he was "scratched" from Opening Ceremony tonight by Hon Myron.

He went on to explain that it was on Friday, July 22, 2016 that he was invited by the "Director of Culture" to give remarks at tonight's Opening Ceremony for the 2016 Festival, and "we have been in conversation everyday since including today, up until 7:00 pm this evening ensuring my attendance."

The senior politician and former Minister for Communications and Works, Hon Fraser, added that while on his way to the ceremony at 9:01 P.M. this evening "the Director of Culture called me and asked if I was on my way, I answered yes I was at Pusser's, and she proceeded to tell me don't bother to come because the Minister don't want me on his programme. I obliged, and did not show up.

Hon Fraser then asked of Premier Dr The Hon D. Orlando Smith: "Is this the divisive Virgin Islands we want for our children's furure?"

The controversial Minister for Education has long been accused of being divisive and tyrannical, however, this is a new low for politics in the Virgin Islands, according to what Hon Fraser is claiming.

Mr Fraser was given a time to be there for an approximate start time of 9:00 pm, and he was not the first speaker on the program so he was right on time. Go wheel and come back with your lies. The darn thing started way past 9:00 anyway.

No, Walwyn is not from here. From here means descended from here. Once one is from here, it doesn't matter where they are born. A Virgin Islander may be born in Kalamazoo or Timbuktu. It is merely incidental that he was borned here, but of foreign parents in a foreign household; he doesn't even sound like a Tortolian. So you see, his culture is foreign. That is why he is unfit to be minister of culture. Walwyn does not understand VI culture and that has a lot to do with his strange behavior.

The NDP has created a culture of disrespect and this is just a continuation of what's been happen all along.HON.Mr. Fraser i will advise you to please start looking for people to represent us from now..don't be caught with your pants down again so to speak. I know VIP don't have the money to buy there way into victory but we need a party that will provide us with good governance.. not one that only need you during election time and once they get in they trample all over the people. They trample on our values, culture ,lowered our standard of living, it's a mess. you think the people of this territory need to be thinking if there is going to be a festival celebration or not? mahnn what a set this is. I really don't care if you dislike this either..its the true and it will hurt somebody.

You sound so stupid... No one can make you lower your values and lower your standard of living . A government cannot make people disrespectful that's on the people not the government. The B.V.I is the way it is because of the culture we have created over the years, we are to blame no one else. Politicians can only get away with what we allow them to get away with. When our mentality begins to change only then will we see a change.

Politicians need to understand nothing is personal. All matters are to be dealt with professionally and in a respectable manner regardless of what happens. Always a smile and ready to greet your fellow politician and the people who did or did not elect you. The people, they employ you. If what was said is true: A Minister should not say he doesn't want you on his program. It is not his program. That is too personal. Remember, its about the people.
  • wize up (26/07/2016, 07:44) Like (9) Dislike (3) Reply
@VG-1....I submit the NDP don't care about the residents or citzens of the territory: NDP focus is foreign investment and foreign investors while hiding behind the development of the country.....a real government developes its people; as an example 10 million went to the foreign airline while I could have gone to our education system; once your youth are well educated they can rise to take up leadership role in this territory: for me it is better to invest in the future of your own people than investing in a foreign airlines(truth be told that airline is an affiliate of NDP supporters).....

The people of the BVI are the softest set of people ever produced from the Caribbean and the rest of the democratic world for that matter. There is no way in the Caribbean this tyrant minister and ministers would be allowed to get away with all this wickedness they are doing. It’s like we are well-programmed with the willie lynch chip to continue accepting abuse.

We are not soft at all. We will come together quickly to fight down the little island man who get a port job from government or block the pickney for an island man from getting a scholarship even though the child is number in the class/school . We will come together to make sure ( or die trying) no island man live better than us in our own country. The only thing we are afraid of is our own people we elect to goverment. Keep the pressure on them Myron, mek dem bawl, is dem who put you in power!!!

If it happened as Fraser indicated, that is not professional behaviour for a democratic society. But I don't see the reason the Leader of the Opposition got to speak at the opening. It is better we leave politics out of the festival and let us all jump up and have fun. God knows what Fraser was going to say. He has a penchant for dampening events like these with some poison. Fraser, don't worry; when you get in, you can kick off the Leader of the Opposition too. It might be Walwyn.

To be quite honest I think as leaders to begin to lead by example and promote unity and not division, it would have been good to see both sides of the house taking part - even if for the first time - in the opening of BVI festival as after all they are all BVI elected officials. To set the record straight though, this was not the first time. So what if Myrun thought that it has never been done before? Why should the opening be limited to speakers from only one side of the house. Myrun should have used that opportunity to display good leadership qualities by not doing the 'norm" and during our emancipation celebration permit his fellow elected official as Leader of the Opposition to speak. That excuse by a Minister of Government is distasteful and displays poor leadership potential. When the leaders behaving that way how you expect the followers to behave? Continue dividing the country with your stupid and childish behavior - too much personal feelings and interests running our little country - nothing good will come out of that type of behavior. Its sad to see people that WE elected behave so petty and foolish!
