GOVERNMENT HOUSE, Road Town, Tortola, VI- It was on Monday, May 9, 2022, that veteran legislator Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3) was sworn in as the second Opposition Leader within the life of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA).

Hon Fraser, who was first elected in 1999 and has retained his seat ever since, was sworn in by Governor John J. Rankin, CMG at Government House in Road Town on the main island of Tortola.

Speaking exclusively to Virgin Islands News Online, the new Opposition Leader noted that “while the all-party government was his idea, the people must respect that the Opposition has a role to play”.

I will do my job as Opposition Leader- Hon Fraser

Mr Fraser, who has been in office for twenty-three years and is now seen as the father of the HoA with Hon Andrew Fahie’s (R1) legal challenges, also stated: “in the absence of a constitutional amendment stating otherwise, I will perform my duties as Leader of the Opposition”.

Hon Fraser has replaced former Opposition Leader Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), who crossed the floor to join the coalition government headed by Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).

Mr Penn now holds the portfolio of Minister for Health and Social Development, replacing Hon Carvin Malone, a Territorial At Large Representative who now sits on the backbench with the Unity Government.

Yay Fraser, we proud of you. It only took 23 years for you too become the leader of something- by default but nevertheless better late than never. Btw- where do you buy grease to keep that path in your head so good? We are dying to know.

Why is the Governor swearing in this man when one of the COI recommendations called him out as been unethical and dishonest and call for him to be investigated... This ain making no sense..Why are they playing us for fools...Unless the Governor wants to look good so when the hammer drops he can't be blamed.

Those are your words. The coi recommended an investigation on project, it never mentions Frazier as being bad. Read it again carefully.

The man gave his explanation to the COI and in his own words said it was not him who asked for the contract, he didn't know and indirectly said he would NEVER ask Foy for that contract.

That’s the trouble with this country. Despite the fact that he is likely involved in bad dealings according to COI you will re-elect. We will never change.

Wow no wonder D3 is so attractive with its Irma museum in Sea Cows Bay and the lovely rugged roads all around this stellar district. Truly his legacy is a testament to how far back in time a portion of Tortola can regress in just a short span of 20+ years. Congratulations!

I am dying for something new. It appears that we have been recycling the same issues. The only thing that you get to look forward to is my favorite radio show on Tola Radio. This though seems to be stuck with the same callers with the same issues.. When it is not the Uk it's ex-pats, then the Governor and the Police it's a fight amongst locals. Is there any info on what the Unity Government is doing? What are they discussing? Where exactly are we ?
