ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Junior Minister for Trade, Economic Development, Agriculture and Fisheries Hon Shereen D. Flax-Charles (AL) has further broken her silence as it relates to exiting the Virgin Islands Party (VIP). Her resignation came days after she was rejected as a returning At-Large candidate at the VIP Congress Elections on February 4, 2023, due to 'incomplete' paperwork.

Hon Flax-Charles on February 12, 2023, resigned from the party and in her announcement said she will be seeking re-election in the 2023 General Election of the Virgin Islands; however, she has no political affiliation at the time.

However, while many believe that the decision at the VIP Congress might have been the decisive factor for the legislator’s exit from the VIP, Hon Flax-Charles said her decision was actually a long time coming.

This she disclosed while appearing as a guest on Cut Deep with host Rosemary Cindy Rosan on February 16, 2023.

“I pondered for a very long time, but you know, sometimes you're in a marriage, in a relationship and it always starts so, so sweet. And then things happen in between… you contemplate should I stay, should I go?  How will it affect the children? How will it affect, in this case, the country?" she detailed.

Hon Flax-Charles said she reasoned and felt it was the best time to exit the party although she believed in some instances, that things would have worked out in the VIP.

Timing was right to exit party - Hon Flax-Charles

When questioned on why she couldn’t hold out in the party for the next few weeks before the dissolution of the House of Assembly, Hon Flax-Charles said she felt the time was right to move on.

“I would say nothing happens before it's time. It's like fine wine…I did what I have to do at that particular time. As I mentioned before, it is something that I pondered for a very long time,” she said.

“You're in a marriage, you're in a relationship and you really figure that you can make a difference and maybe influence to get some things done and it just wasn't going to work and so I decided to move on.”

Meanwhile, Hon Flax-Charles said she believes her exit was for the best of the country and now she can focus on other areas to push the VI forward in the face of political uncertainty.

She was committing political adultery for a while now while sitting with the VIP and negotiating with other parties so she must know that it was a bad marriage because she made it bad and was bad in it.

That's what I notice, reading the first article of how she decided to run with the VIP train and putting in her paper work to the secretary is a crocodile story. Seeing that she is saying now that it has been a long time coming; tells that it wasn't done properly for a reason. Stop the slyness; now isn't the time to be sly. After saying that politics isn't the thing for you now in the other article and now belching untruth? Stupes, see!, that I don't have time for. I fear people like that meson!!!!!!!!

I hope she knows that every story has two sides, and it is not who speaks out first and the loudest and often is always the one in the right.

I do not know about her relationship with the VIP but if it is anything like how disrespectful she speaks to public officers then I understand why the marriage went bad.

The V.I.P has a group of young politicians who stood the test of time and came out very good. There are so many positives that came out from these young politicians. We have a genius of a Premier who can stand anywhere and represent the Territory. I speak of no other person but Hon. Dr. Natalio Wheatley. He can deliver himself on behalf of the Territory. Hon Shereen Flax Charles was under my radar for a long time. There seems to be some problems with her stability. However, she blew the lid off and made herself a public specticle. I think stress of the job was too much for her to handle.

Sometimes we make mistakes and try to compare the B.V.I with more develop islands in the Caribbean and want to accomplish too much with little. I want to advise Hon. Flax Charles to do some reflection and take a break from politics and take a well-deserved vacation. We must give God all the praise and thanks that Flax Charles did not end up in the mental asylum.

Birds of a feather flocks together. All you need to stop it he who is without sin cast the first stone. When you digging a ditch dig two for you may very well fall into it. Take a seat and go find someone who is in need and put your focus there then your living will not be in vain. Couldn't help before because you were to busy trying to put down your party. Take the time now for you will be free.

You are a disappointment to all who voted for you. When you run this time you need to improve your attitude. That's your biggest downfall. Learn how to respect people and you will be on the right track.
