ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – New Virgin Islands Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) says business in the Virgin Islands (VI) will continue, even as former Premier Andrew A. Fahie (R1) is to face the courts on drugs conspiracy and money laundering charges.

Speaking during today’s May 13, 2022, meeting with the press and update on current matters, Premier Wheatley said the VI has moved on with a new Government and new ministers.

“What transpired somewhere around two weeks ago was very unfortunate and it was saddening and shocking for all of us, but since then we have moved on. We have removed the former Premier from his position and there is a new Minister of Finance, and a New Minister of Tourism and a New Premier and we have a new Government in place,” Dr Wheatley said.

“We are sending a message to the Virgin Islands Public as well as the International Community, that business continues in the BVI. Certainly, the former Premier will face his day in court and he will have to defend himself,” he added.

Gov't moving swiftly - Premier Wheatley

Dr Wheatley also said the new Unity Government is taking measures and moving swiftly to ensure that they root out any vestiges of any type of corruption and maladministration.

Meanwhile, the Premier mentioned the need for a new BVI Ports Authority Board and touched on criminal investigations launched by the Governor into various areas such as H.M Customs and the Premier's Office.

‘We are serious about making sure that we show our commitment to good governance, transparency, accountability, respect for the rule of law all of those things,” Dr Wheatley added.

He said the commitment is not just to the international community and UK Government but to the people of the VI.

"We are affirming very strongly that the BVI remains an excellent place to live, to work, and to visit and I’m confident that visitors will continue to come to the BVI because certainly business continues in the BVI and we welcome them,” he added.

As another retired citizen I would have to agree with you. I never supported VIP because of the leader of the party. He was the one that was stifling the party. He was the one calling the shots and it reflected on the cabinet that is why people were saying they wanted VIP gone from office. A deaf blind person knew that.

I am still trying to wrap my head around all that has been happening. Things are moving so fast! The alleged crimes committed by the former Premier have hurt us..but it is so incredible that we have forgotten him so quickly...like he never existed. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? From my conversation with many people including very young people, they were not surprised that he was arrested since some claimed they knew he was "crooked" long time. Who else knew? Why wasn't he exposed before this? Did other people in the Government know? Why didn't they blow the whistle? Sure we all distanced ourselves from the allegation as stated in the affidavit but Andrew Fahie is human, a brother, father, uncle a friend of ours. How could we just act like he never exist? Did the Uk Embassy even send someone to visit him? If this was a US Official arrested in the BVI for the same alleged offenses would they have just abandoned him like this? I know that if the Premier was arrested here at home the Police Station or Prison would have been raided by members of the public. I have seen a certain drug lord here arrested for certain crimes and he was treated like hero. Now most of you may say I am condoning the alleged crimes of Andrew Fahie but let me say again quite forcefully that I am not it is just that I have never seen a BV Islander abandoned or scorned so much.

@Amazed, if I were you, I would not continue with your line of argument. andrew tempted the fates too often and now they have struck back. unfortunately he tempted the fates while he was premier bringing the bvi to international shame first by calling for the coi, then stating that the findings were wrong and then proving them correct.
leave andrew alone with the fates and to his fate. dont come on here spewing piddle. we will see him in 25 to 30 years.

I have made it known that in my honest, and strong opinion that some, if not all of the former Premier Andrew Fahie under Ministers have knowledge of some of his illegal activities. Pretending that none of them know nothing, especially those that worked closely with him is almost unbearable. If in fact they do, they should have informed us. If they did not, they are naived, and all should be fire for their ignorancy.
But I am sticking to my opinion that he could not hide from them, especially those closest to his policy sharing activities, keep them totally ignorant of all his illegal dealing.
In the coming days , weeks, probably in few months, many more dark things that have happened, and some unsuspected individuals will be exposed by the CoI probed of mismanagement by our political leaders of ours, we the people, their employer finances,. Believedit or not, liked it or not, received it or not.

What the former premier has allegedly done is so reprehensible. We are all still reeling. There is nothing we can do but look on helplessly. AF hoodwinked all of us.. While we here working 2 and 3 jobs at bare minimum wage he thinking of other ways to fill his own pocket. I pray for him and his family but he made his bed. The country has to move on. In time he may be forgiven but for now the wounds are too raw.

Not too much this Govt can do right now they have to wait to hear from Britain and get the verdict .. I will maintain my position,I still think Marlon being deputy is better look, a more serious approach going forward,. Don't like the idea that in this coalition govt the top 2 positions came from the alleged corrupt govt they are undoubtedly complicit...According to Sam this unity set up is a "SHAM..
