ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- In what Opposition Member Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) described as blatant abuse of power and undemocratic, Leader of Government Business and Premier Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith moved the questions the Opposition had on the Order Paper for the Government today January 25, 2016 to a later time on the Order Paper.

When Hon Fahie objected and inquired as to why the change on the agenda, Premier Smith claimed that he wants Government Business to go first because if it goes later “people are tired and not able to concentrate.”

Hon  Fahie, a senior Virgin Islands Party Member, then asked Premier Smith if he was suggesting that questions being asked about the people’s business is not important and must wait until when people are tired and do not have much energy. The Premier responded that he was not suggesting that, but just wanted to “get his matters out of the way.”

In addition, Hon Fahie noted that he wanted to place on record that the Premier’s behavior and the House of Assembly majority decision were “undemocratic and an abuse of power.”

The amendment to the Order Paper was approved.

Moments ago the Sixth Sitting of the First Session of the Third House of Assembly was adjourned until Wednesday January 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM.

VI under a dictatorship?

The Opposition Virgin Islands Party (VIP) has long argued that the National Democratic Party (NDP) Government has refused to answer questions put forward by the Opposition. In addition, the Opposition has claimed that when questions are answered they are most often not truthful.

The NDP has also been accused by the media, civil society, talk show hosts, ordinary residents and other critics of not practicing democracy. It has had a history of trying to censor the press, silent the Opposition and victimise citizens who speak out against its policies.

The Government has denied the allegations, while passing a bill, the Cyber Act, to muzzle the press and put journalists in jail.

Premier and government seem to have more urgent issues than opposition questions. Finding the trail of a $48M overage on the port project is a more urgent issue. Opposition questions are important for good governance.

This government with its China and Russian mentality are destroying this territory. They think they are above the law and only they and their friends who support them financially must survive. Where is the governor who represents the queen and should be looking out for the welfare of her citizens? Are we to suffer at the hands of dictators? Mr. Governor the people of this territory are crying out for relief from what we are suffering at the hands of this regime.

@ see: please shed more light because the laws of the house of assembly gives an adminstration the legal right to reorder the order paper.....keep seeing all the request for the queen and governor to do this and to do that yet the same queen have given the current administration authorization to go ahead with the airport project.....I am either for VIP or NDP as a matter of fact have no political affiliation (just want process for the territory)

For those of you who are asking " where is the governor" please leave the man alone.. he's on VACATION ..he's not to be bothered ...i tired telling you all this is dictatorship not democracy. the days of democracy he in the B.V.Is are long gone. but it seems like that's the way the majority wants to be governed ..they told us so on 08 June 2015.
We are in big trouble here people but by the time the majority do realize it we all will be too late.

LOL...& this the man that got upset when he was called a moomoo?!? How can anyone be upset when labeled a certain way yet it's exactly how they act. Every time he speaks he drives home the point of just how foolish he is when it comes to running this country. Smith I beg you pls do yourself & the entire BVI a huge favor & go back to the health services dept where you thrived for many yrs. Politics is not for you
