ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has called on residents to prepare for more road infrastructure upgrades next year.

The government has undertaken major roadworks through the Ministry of Communications and Works.

“I’m just saying to us in 2026, prepare for some level of road disruption because if you want to do it right, you’re going to have to disrupt persons,” Premier Wheatley said during the Virgin Islands Voice on October 8, 2025.

He added that a good job was done on the Fish Bay road and work is currently ongoing on the Hodge’s Creek to Paraquita Bay road, which he said will soon be finished.

Premier Wheatley said this road in particular is one example of roadworks that has taken a bit longer than expected.

“It’s taken a lot longer than I would like…But hopefully we are able to do the work as effectively and efficiently as possible, and when we finish, we have a nice road that will last us many decades.”

West End to Road Town roadworks coming

Meantime, Premier Wheatley disclosed that major roadworks will begin on the West End to Road Town roadway.

“We have a contract, it’s coming to Cabinet very shortly, and it’s going to be for roadworks from the ferry in West End to the ferry in Road Town.”

He once again informed residents that they should expect to experience some level of disruption once these roadworks begin.

Premier Wheatley, however, assured, “But at the end of it, we’re going to deliver a very nice road.”

"A lot longer"...... it is nothing short of a national embarrassment. Will anyone be held accountable for the time and money that has been wasted on this project....? For the dismay and the anguish it has caused residents for over one year...?

No need for an answer it was a rhetorical question?

Waay too long..I am more concern about the quality, the cost, smoothness also no walking side walk. We BVI contractors make a lot of noiae when foreign contractors get the job, look the poor work we doing, for the high, high cost doubling the agreed finishing time...

A Roller coaster rides much smoother than that little stretch of road. Even an apprentice has a tape measure, a level and a ball of string before they start learning masonry. These guys obviously know nothing about measuring heights. I guess they take so long to do the next 10 feet of road that they forget the height of the last ten feet they did two weeks ago. One thing for certain there will be no accident on this stretch of road because of speeding. But there will be many accidents because of damaged front ends. is there no oversight form the ministry or RADA.

Simply, this project took an eternity to get to the stage of being complete and useable. A postmortem needs to be conducted on this project to ascertain what went wrong,ie, how the project management train got derailed, learning from to prevent the issues from occurring with other projects.

8 months to fix 300 yards of roadway?!! This is totally unacceptable. I wager some persons are going to be very rich by the time this project comes to completion.
