ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The 2024 edition of the King of the Courts (KOTC) Caribbean Championships tipped off at the Multi-Purpose Complex on Thursday, April 4, 2024, with wins for both the Tortola and Virgin Gorda teams.

Former Los Angeles Lakers’ D’Moi M. Hodge led Team Tola to a 77-44 points win over Sint Maarten (SXM) and Virgin Gorda defeated Bahamas 78-75.

Hodge knocked down 30 points for Tola to give basketball fans a taste of his talent that has allowed him to gain the title of being the first [British] Virgin Islander to play in the NBA.

Dajour Bas led SXM’s scoring with 17 points.

Team Tola play defending champions US Virgin Islands (USVI) tonight.

The two teams last met on March 31, 2024, in the Mamba Mentality 3 basketball tournament at Ivanna Eudora Kean Gymnasium on St Thomas, USVI.

USVI got the better of Tortola 69-50; however, the home side now has the services of D’Moi M. Hodge.

He's not the first BVIslander to play in the NBA Kleon Penn is. However congrats to him as he might be a better player.

He sure is the first BVIslander to play in the NBA. Kleon was invited to try out with the Timberwolves, if memory serves me correct. He never suited up for an actual in-season NBA game. Both are very talented basketball players (BVIslanders) but without causing division, we should keep the facts as the facts.

Another notable person in the NBA with BVI heritage (I understand) is Washington Wizards, assistant coach, David Vanterpool.

Go Team BVI and Team VG #VIStrong!

DMoi is the first BVIslander to play in the NBA for sure.
I think tonight he would put in that overdrive gear to win the USVI.
The other team mates played well also last night, but tonight they have to step up their game a bit more because St. Thomas still playing hungry to regain that championship.

U guys really on here fighting about who first to play in NBA. We should be rejoicing that we had 2 persons so far that got somewhere near to the NBA. This is ridiculous. Is that bad energy that tola people does put out is why none of them playing on any of the real NBA teams.
