Hodge & Penn Jr lift VI to Leewards U19 Championship
The VI were led by the talented D’Moi M. Hodge who scored 28 points, adding 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 4 steals to his night’s work. Hodge’s impressive performance comes on the heels of his return from New York, USA where he, along with fellow Virgin Islander Malachy S. Payne, attended the Digicel NBA Elite Programme.
Frankly L. Penn Junior finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals, whilst Riquan Fahie notched 11 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal and Jachoy Walwyn hit 11 points with 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.
Penn Junior was named the Tournament MVP and also took home the Most Assists award.
Tyler Cameron won the Most Steals award.
Antigua take 3rd place
Antigua finished in third place after they beat the host nation Montserrat, 93-65, St Kitts finished 5th with a 65-62 win over Anguilla and Barbuda, who ended up 7th as they won their last game against Nevis, 68-58.
The VI team had reached the final of the U19 Leeward Islands Tournament with a crushing 95-60 victory over Montserrat last night.
The other semi final saw St Maarten beat Antigua 60-56.
The Under 19 team began play in the Leeward Islands Championship, hosted by Montserrat, with a 99-74 win over St Marten on Sunday, and the teams clashed again in the Final, with a similar result.
Along the way, the VI had a 95-78 victory against St Kitts and a crushing defeat of Nevis, 126 – 55.
St Marten bounced back from the defeat to the VI with wins against Nevis and St Kitts.
The Antiguans routed Anguilla 83-38, beat Montserrat 76-48 and then demolished Barbuda, 73-63.
The [British] Virgin Islands squad included Hakeem Penn, Ronald Antonio, D’Moi M. Hodge, Lenroy Grant, Jachoy Walwyn, Tyler Cameron, Johnt Charles, Frankly L. Penn Junior and Riquan Fahie.
The Coaches were Ronald “Gola” Norman and Trevor “West” Stevens.
