Hodge, Caleb & Gunners leave it late to blow away Splash Brothers
The late surge of free scoring was what many had expected from both teams during the Series, but in truth game one was an error strewn match up, played a little too fast, a little too fancy and incredibly frugally until those last few moments when Hodge splashed three consecutive “3’s”, to finally kill off the tenacious Splash Brothers.
The score at the start of the 4th quarter was 57-50 to the Gunners after Rowan Victor had scored on a steal at the buzzer to end the third.
Rowan Victor went in from long range to make it 60-52 and then pulled off a big block on Ashfield Frett to send Ray D. Victor away.
He was fouled and went 2/2 from the free throw line making it 62-52. Kevin Bodkin scored for the Brothers, Ray D. Victor and Demoi Hodge got their wires crossed on another fast break, Ray and Rowan Victor interchanged passes, Ray ending up fouled and shooting 1/2 to make it 63-54, Shamoii A. Dagou splashed from down town as the Brothers mounted a ferocious come back and bringing his team to within three points, but then Caleb and Hodge took over.
Ray D. Victor splashed his third “3”, after Caleb had notched his first “3”, either side of a Dagou score and suddenly it was an eight point game. Ray D. Victor was fouled on his next shooting attempt and went ½ from the charity stripe, Caleb tipped in a Rowan Victor shot and Ray then combined with Caleb for two more and the score almost from nowhere was 77-64.
Inside the last three minutes Hodge splashed three “3’s”, went 2/2 from the free throw line and saw Caleb finish the game off with another two making it 90-67.
Caleb who scored just 2 points in the first three quarters ended up with 13 and 15 rebounds, Hodge added 7 steals and 5 rebounds to his final tally of 25 points, and Ray D. Victor finished with 26 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals, whilst Rowan Victor notched 27 points along with 8 rebounds and 7 assists.
The Splash Brothers were led by Michael Benjamin’s 18 points, 17 with 8 rebounds from Travis A. Isaac and 13 from Ashfield Frett, who also added 14 rebounds. Shamoii A. Dagou finished with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
