ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The House of Assembly (HoA) of the Virgin Islands (VI) expressed its gratitude to the people of the VI for their overwhelming support during the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Restoration of the Virgin Islands Legislature.

The celebrations were held from November 2 to 23, 2025, under the theme, ’Honouring the Past, Shaping the Future: The Virgin Islands 75 Year Journey Towards Self-Determination!’

Activities included church services, radio and online quizzes, a special sitting of the HoA, a grand concert and a recognition ceremony.

Celebration of values

According to A December 11, 2025, press release from the HoA, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon Corine N. George-Massicote, called this milestone a celebration of values.

“It represents our collective expression of gratitude to the men and women who, through the decades, have chosen service over self, duty over comfort, and legacy over applause.”

Residents, the release added, actively participated, provided valuable input, offered services and prayers, increased patronage, and embodied the theme of honouring the past while shaping a self-determined future.

These contributions marked the territory's 75-year journey toward greater autonomy.

The HoA again extended its thanks to residents of the Virgin Islands for their steadfast support and invaluable contributions.

“This commitment remains unwavering in serving the people and advancing the territory's progress.”

Activities include church services. Right there is the problem from out the gate. Which christian can prove the bible is god words come and collect $10,000.00 right now.

Really?? That was a decidedly thin crowd for a very important VIslander celebration

Very clear to see from this how many of the voters in the VI do not live here. Whilst 20,000 people living in this Authoritarian state, paying taxes do not get a vote.

More VIslanders need to come back for these events not just to vote or better still people paying taxes get to vote and have a stake and build pride and would be a part of they be part of the heritage of the nation together.

Then VI would not be an isolated nation of elites rooted in the past and wedded to Colonialist ways and values.

Do tell - what was the total cost of these "celebrations" and who benefited? I do wish we could have less parties at tax payer's expense because there has been minimal general economic progress in the last few years.
