HoA Speaker Hon Julian Willock agrees to tender resignation

Hon Willock made the announcement in his opening statement at the continuation of the Second Sitting of the Fourth Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) today, Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
According to Hon Willock, this morning he received a phone call from the Acting Premier who advised him that a majority of Members in the HoA agreed that he should demit office.
Speaker says he has done no wrong
“I asked the Acting Premier during the telephone conversation if he was aware that I did anything wrong, he said ‘no’. I asked him if he had any knowledge that I was implicated in any aspect of the Commission of Inquiry Report in anyway, he said ‘no’. I asked the Acting Premier to his knowledge if I was under any active investigation on any matter of governance or misconduct while in office he said ‘no’, so I was surprised with his proposal.”
Hon Willock said he messaged the Acting Premier requesting to be given until the next day to offer his resignation and also to allow him to clear his office, advise his family and speak to his attorney.

Hon Willock also said he wanted to recognise the hard work and support of the Deputy Speaker and also the clerk, whose unwavering support he has enjoyed.
