HoA restructured 11 to 1 in favour of Unity Government

- Three members cross floor effective immediately
The House of Assembly (HoA) has been restructured 11-1 in favour of a National Unity Government that will hopefully be considered by Governor John J. Rankin, CMG as an alternative to direct rule, which is being rejected by a large majority of Virgin Islanders. Photo: HoA

DUFFS BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- In another post-Commission of Inquiry (CoI) move, three members of the Opposition have crossed the floor to formulate a coalition Government.

3 Opposition Members cross the floor

Leader of the Opposition Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) and Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4) from the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2) from the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) have crossed the floor, giving the National Unity Government some 11 seats.

The lone Opposition Member is Hon Julian Fraser (R3) from Progressives United (PU).

Acting Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) announced a Unity Government under his leadership yesterday May 4, 2022, and that two of his current Ministers, Hon Carvin Malone (AL), the Minister for Health and Social Development and Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9), the Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, would no longer be serving as Ministers.

No more NDP, VIP or PVIM- Dr Wheatley

According to Dr Wheatley, during the continuation of the Second Sitting of the Fourth Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) at Duff’s Bottom, Tortola today, May 5, 2022, there is no more NDP, PVIM, or VIP for now, but a government of national unity.

“We have a government of national unity and we call on the people of the Virgin Islands to support this government of national unity,” Dr Wheatley stated.

Opposition has ‘important role to play’

The Acting Premier said he was grateful that there was an Opposition.

“Of course, you cannot have a House of Assembly without an Opposition, it is not a good idea. The Opposition has an important role to play in any democracy, in any parliamentary democracy and I’m grateful that we have our most senior member one of my most knowledgeable and experienced members in the history of this parliament there to hold us accountable, Dr Wheatley said of Hon Fraser being in the Opposition.

Further, he urged the territory to use this crisis as an opportunity to launch itself into a “great new prosperous” future.

“It is a new beginning and sometimes the old has to die away so that the new can be reborn,” Dr Wheatley stated.

It is unclear how this will affect the next General election due no later than May 12, 2023, if Governor John J. Rankin, CMG opts to go with the proposal of a unity government, as opposed to direct rule by the United Kingdom.

The reason VIP had carte blanche and do what they wanted was because of their overwhelming majority. So the solution is to make a super majority?
An opposition party is there as a check and control on the incumbent party.

    Blacks Don’t Read

This is very deep, and unfortunately, very true!

This is a heavvvvy piece and a Caucasian wrote it.

    THEY ARE STILL OUR SLAVES
We can continue to reap profits from the Blacks without the effort of physical slavery. Look at the current methods of containment that they use on themselves: IGNORANCE, GREED, and SELFISHNESS.

Their IGNORANCE is the primary weapon of containment. A great man once said, “The best way to hide something from Black people is to put it in a book.” We live now in the Information Age. They have gained the opportunity to read any book on any subject through the efforts of their fight for freedom, yet they refuse to read.

There are numerous books readily available at Borders, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.com, not to mention their own Black Bookstores that provide solid blueprints to reach economic equality (which should have been their fight all along), but few read consistently, if at all.

GREED is another powerful weapon of containment. Blacks, since the abolition of slavery, have had large amounts of money at their disposal. Last year they spent 10 billion dollars during Christmas, out of their 450 billion dollars in total yearly income (2.22%). Any of us can use them as our target market, for any business venture we care to dream up, no matter how outlandish, they will buy into it. Being primarily a consumer people, they function totally by greed. They continually want more, with little thought for saving or investing. They would rather buy some new sneaker than invest in starting a business. Some even neglect their children to have the latest Tommy or FUBU. And they still think that having a Mercedes, and a big house gives the “Status” or that they have achieved the American Dream.

They are fools! The vast majority of their people are still in poverty because their greed holds them back from collectively making better communities. With the help of BET, and the rest of their black media that often broadcasts destructive images into their own homes, we will continue to see huge profits like those of Tommy and Nike. (Tommy Hilfiger has even jeered them, saying he doesn’t want their money, and look at how the fools spend more with him than ever before!). They’ll continue to show off to each other while we build solid communities with the profits from our businesses that we market to them.

SELFISHNESS, ingrained in their minds through slavery, is one of the major ways we can continue to contain them. One of their own, Dubois said that there was an innate division in their culture. A “Talented Tenth” he called it. He was correct in his deduction that there are segments of their culture that has achieved some “form” of success. However, that segment missed the fullness of his work. They didn’t read that the “Talented Tenth” was then responsible to aid the Non-Talented Ninety Percent in achieving a better life. Instead, that segment has created another class, a Buppie class that looks down on their people or aids them in a condescending manner. They will never achieve what we have. Their selfishness does not allow them to be able to work together on any project or endeavor of substance. When they do get together, their selfishness lets their egos get in the way of the goal. Their so-called help organizations seem to only want to promote their name without making any real change in their community. They are content to sit in conferences and conventions in our hotels, and talk about what they will do, while they award plaques to the best speakers, not the best doers. Is there no end to their selfishness? They steadfastly refuse to see that “TOGETHER EACH ACHIEVES MORE (TEAM)! They do not understand that they are no better than each other because of what they own. In fact, most of those Buppies are but one or two paychecks away from poverty. All of which is under the control of our pens in our offices and our boardrooms.

Yes, will continue to contain them as long as they refuse to read, continue to buy anything they want, and keep thinking they are “helping” their communities by paying dues to organizations which do little other than hold lavish conventions in our hotels.

By the way, don’t worry about any of them reading this letter, remember,

    ‘THEY DON’T READ!!!!’

Honorable Mr. Governor, it is time that you should see the rejection that this town has the opportunity of a plebiscite so that the town shows that it wants you to govern us for 3 or 4 years until we purge these ticks from this cow.

They are not doing this for the country, and they are not doing it for the people. They are doing it for themselves. Their one and only goal at this point is staying in power. Wake up.

    Business as usual.

Mark Vanterpool being on the new party is a very bad idea. By the way wasn’t he supposed to resign from politics?? This would have been good timing to go for the best interest of the country or he should have stayed with Fraser in the opposition.

Staying on the Opposition might actually require him to do work. He has been getting a free ride at out expense for 3 years. Why would he choose to give that up at this time? I am tired of politicians who are only in it for personal gain.

The ball will roll until it reaches a level area.
Aren't these people the same people who were constantly tearing each other down in every instance that appeared. They never got along together.
Wasn't all the vip members supporting Andrew and saying that they back him and he's the best man to run the group. And agreed with whatever he did? Who fooling who? Look at how many Judases appear suddenly. I could still hear them now."Andrew is the best thing, since fresh water and slice bread were here." I support Frazer now but I never liked him.
